Went with Shudak. Stewart would have been up there too. When each of them were on the team, they literally were our offense and the stats show it.

Curious who is voting for Shaggy. He only missed 2 of the biggest kicks in program history in back to back years that would have won us the Big 12 north. He may have single handedly beat Iowa in 2007 but man he shanked a lot of other kicks in big spots. He was a great kid but to me I never felt comfortable with him kicking in a big spot. Glad to see Mike McKnight was not a choice, I was never so worried about making a PAT than when he was kicking.

Another name the throw out there in the mold of a good 1 year run (less than that really) was Carl Gomez who was mostly a punter then took over most of the place kicking duties during his senior year because of McKnight's issues. 7/8 on FG and 12/13 on XP. Wish Mac had made that switch sooner

Can’t believe the goat Edwin Arceo wasn’t an option
Bump:
The real story at KU last year was when Arceo kicked off, ran to the the semi full of porta potties on the track, took a deuce, came out 5 minutes later. Started running back to ISU sidelines, past our ISU visiting section, and got cheered. He raised his arm with a big grin, as in thank you.
It was hilarious.

Give me Mevis or give me death.

Sometimes I do wonder though if Kirby could have kicked because he was a great punter.

I haven't voted, but that's part of the reason I posted their actual stats. Memory clouds judgment.

People have a tendency to tag Shaggy as a terrible kicker entirely because of 2 misses (that frankly, shouldn't have even come down to him in the first place). Conversely, Stewart gets lauded as this great kicker mostly because of the 4 FG he made in the Nebraska upset.

Yet, Shaggy was way better inside 40 (.816) than Stewart (.714).

EDIT: I'll add that Shaggy was the fourth option in 2004 (behind an injured Yelk, Brian Jansen, and Scott Krava) who didn't even see the field until game 6, and was still the third option in 2005 (behind Yelk and Edgar Arceo).

And Shudak gets remembered as some fantastic kicker, but he also got more swings than anyone else (79 attempts in 4 years) and several times was the only reason ISU didn't get shut out.

I actually struggled between Mevis and Yelk. I recalled Yelk sniffed the NFL was on practice squads. I believe Mevis will be in the same boat this year, perhaps winning the spot with the Jags.

The stats surprised me on how poor Yelk was on FG and longer FG over 40

Meh, I'll take a crack at it. He beat Iowa it's that simple for me, and to be blunt I don't take these polls near as serious as some of the posters on this site do. I remember him liked him while he was here so he got my vote. All these kids came to ISU made the team and played D1 FB something I doubt I could have ever done.

Yelk definitely had a leg, just inconsistent at times.

Worked at Paddys in Ames, got to know him, he's a great guy.

Holy cow. I voted for Yelk before I saw these numbers. Had no idea he was that bad. Didn't he punt well for us his last couple years? Maybe that is skewing my memories?

Yelk punted late in his career I think? I could be wrong there but I do know he was mostly a kickoff and long yard FG kicker after he lost his job as the main place kicker. He had a strong leg but accuracy was always the issue with him.

Yelk should have an asterisk by his FG percentage.

I was gonna say Shaggy. But Mevis is probably the right answer. I didn't realize his percentages were that high.
