By the FedEx cup standings, the trio I listed are 1/2/3. Phil hasn't been playing, so it's unfair to judge him by that, but he is past his prime by any standard. DJ may be too, as he hasn't been all that good for the last year (rank: 96) with more cuts missed than top 10's. Sergio has had a great career and can still be relevant here and there, but also past his prime. For what it's worth, I am a fan of all three.
This is a serious question. Do you consider yourself a serious golf fan or a casual one?

I ask because I follow it very closely so I find it hard to relate how I look at things to how casual golf fans relate to things. Judging by what TV does currently, the casual fan pays the bills. They aren't doing anything for those of us who are deeper into the weeds.

I still think this thing hinges on Rory assuming Tiger never goes. Obviously Tiger could flip everything on it's head but next I think is Rory because he's the most beloved among his peers and fans, not to mention he's thoughtful and articulate.

Serious, I suppose. I started watching when it was Nicklaus/Watson. Probably watch 6-8 hours of golf a week (double that if work is slow). Golf once a week, but would golf every single day if I could.

Really good article on the whole situation. PGA tour has no one to blame but themselves
I really enjoy jabbing ay the tour and they could change a lot of stuff but with all their liabilities on the books (low level players and tours specifically) they can't fight this money battle. They can't offer the high level guys what they're worth and while they've tried with FedEx and PIP, they can't give DJ $150 million dollars. They can't give Talor Gooch $20 million. They have to be somewhat feasible. LIV doesn't and that's why this is so different. You're dealing with an entity that has blank checks right now to get this thing off the ground and if you think a lot of those guys aren't going to take a generational money guarantee, you're nuts, and they'd be nuts too. Rory is going to be a billinonaire so it's easy for him to look past the money but let's take Gooch, for example. He's getting somewhere in the 15-20 million range guaranteed, with provisions. That's great but the big thing is that his career is guaranteed. He could fall of the face of the map in two years and we see that all the time so not only is he getting that chunk, he's looking at 120K minimum to play 3 days, then he looks at these field right now and he has to figure he's going find some much bigger checks some weeks. THEN, his starts are all guaranteed. So this guy is looking at a guaranteed 6-8 million per year for 3-4 years to play, what, 1/3 the tournaments with each being 3/4 of a tournament. I mean, ****, where do you sign up? His wife could sue him for fiduciary negligence if he didn't do it. The guy's barely made more than that in like 4 years on TOUR. I don't blame them one bit.

Yeah, I'd say that's serious. I was just curious, because like I said, sometimes I'm too deep into it to tell what casual fans actually like.

I’m surprised that they haven’t embraced betting more. I think golf is one of the most fun sports to bet on.

Well Both, but I was referring to watching in this instance. Seems like the tour could get a big infusion of money by partnering with fanduel and draft kings and the like
Betting on golf seems to me like throwing money on a roulette table. Of course, I'm not a gambler, and there are surely all kinds of various propositions, but if you're just in the pick-a-winner mode, no idea how you'd bet in a way that wasn't a wild ass guess.

Which bets do you like? I've looked before and it was just like who's going to win, or get top 10, and it always just seemed like throwing **** at a wall since it can be so varied from tournament to tournament.

Whenever I go into the 3D Viewcast thing they have it seems like a betting ad pops up eventually.

No different from any other sport for the general public.

That’s what I mean; they need live bets and player props. This is just me shitballing but you could have a group waiting on the tee at 12 and there could be a live bet if everyone in the group to get par or better.

You could do any player in the field to get an 8 or higher on a given day.

Over unders on combined birdies from two or more players.

Over unders on number of putts in a round.

Anyone in the field to be DQed (that probably would have paid out big last week at Memorial.)

Idk that might all be crazy.

I've seen stuff like that for major tournaments.

Head to head scoring
Group winners within a threesome for a hole/round
Individual scores on an upcoming hole
