NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

This is from a February article going off the notion that the team would sell for around 4 Billion:

"Pat Bowlen's 7 children eventually stand to receive 78 percent of the team's sale -- or 11.14 percent each. John Bowlen, a minority owner and one of Pat's brothers, owns 22 percent of the team. If the team is sold for $4 billion, each child would get $445.6 million before taxes, fees and expenses while their uncle John would get $880 million before taxes, fees and expenses."

Hard to believe they decided to take on this PR nightmare.

Have to believe at least a little bit of buyer's remorse has to be setting in at this point. I get the desire of wanting to replace the PR nightmare that is Baker Mayfield... but to replace him with a PR natural disaster? I mean, the Texans have been added as a defendant in the suit against Watson, not to mention he's now facing even further suspensions.

Want to know why the Browns have largely been irrelevant since Vinny Testaverde was QB? Well, here you go.

Hard to look any worse than the Browns right now. Signing him immediately after he was charged claiming you’ve done your own diligence only to have a reporter do their own diligence and find out this issue is much more expansive than anyone even realized. Looks to me like their diligence didn’t go much further than seeing what the grand jury did.

Reminder that NFL teams only care about criminal charges. Couldn't possibly give any single s*** about any kind of civil proceedings. The Browns aren't even the ones wrapped up in it now...the Texans are, legally.

Is this move by the Browns to acquire Watson the worst in NFL/sports history? It sounds like even if the league hands out a major suspension, the Browns are on the hook for all of Watson's salary (at least 2022 and 2023).

Very typical Browns. Don't forget the part where in doing so they ran off an otherwise serviceable (not great, but ok) quarterback.

Isn't his deal structured so he makes almost no money in 2022 in comparison for 2023 moving on. I thought that was stated earlier in the thread.

I looked at the contract details again and you are correct. He is only getting paid about $1 million in base salary plus another $9 million in signing bonus for 2022.

Yeah...and they did this because they wanted him to get as much of the money in the contract as possible right? Because they knew he would be suspended this season so his salary hit is small in comparison to what it would be in years 2+ of the contract. They basically are admitting he is getting suspended for his behavior but we want to pay him as much as we can pay him regardless of his past.

@MySportsUpdate: Breaking: Deshaun Watson has reached confidential settlements with all but four civil lawsuits that were filed against him, according to attorney Tony Buzbee.
