Maybe we can get him back once Fred is fired next year.Well he should be. His job is on the line.
Sometimes a players ability goes beyond stats. Hunter was Big12 freshman of the year. He ran ISU's offense and was a lockdown defender. He thrived in a role that Morris & Halliburton didn't have thrust upon them.
Who knows if Hunter will be an NBA player. But he is a college hoops STUD. He doesn't have to shoot great from 3 to be a STUD. He can make the guys around him better and be a coach on the floor.
People need to get over it. Hunter is going to make more money by entering the portal than just about everyone on this board has made jumping to a new job.
And I don't blame Wendy, Jamie, TJ or Matt if they don't want to play in the NIL marketplace in the current dynamic.
When I’m cheap, I openly say it’s because I’m cheap. Also, I love when people do something for money and then try to hit you with the "you don't know the details or the whole story" bull****. They know it looks bad as hell and then try to shield themselves with "I can't share that private information" to cover themselves. Just effin own it and say you wanted money.
They just like to leave it open to interpretation so that people assume it was something else. So lame. When I’m cheap, I openly say it’s because I’m cheap.
But as others have pointed out, what is to prevent a school (collective) to give a kid $250k to walk-on at that school, thus not even using a scholly. Sure the player would be giving back $20k(ish) for cost of attendance but still clearing six figure.I get that, but let's be honest, there's only so many scholarships available at blue blood schools, and only so much money that they can afford to pay every year. Even at a school like UK or Arkansas, I can't see them paying $50k to the 13th scholarship, especially if they're paying $500k to the top 3-5.
The overall $ might be less for MBB than FB, but sure a team can just stop by paying 2 guys.Agreed. Plus the value proposition is just easier with a 13 man roster where one or two studs can truly carry a team. Football gets a lot harder outside of proven stars at like specifically QB that it will make a big difference in W/L.
Could they consider the business, therefore the cost of school would be a tax deductible expense? But as others have pointed out, what is to prevent a school (collective) to give a kid $250k to walk-on at that school, thus not even using a scholly. Sure the player would be giving back $20k(ish) for cost of attendance but still clearing six figure.
Right now, nothing. But as others have pointed out, what is to prevent a school (collective) to give a kid $250k to walk-on at that school, thus not even using a scholly. Sure the player would be giving back $20k(ish) for cost of attendance but still clearing six figure.
I'm literally just explaining in broader terms as to what Chris Williams said went down with the entire situation. Listen to their podcast again and you'll understand. Why are we assuming Mcgee got any money? I haven't seen anything, but have done little research. If Wisconsin is paying him anything that gets Hunter's attention, then one of two things: Wisconsin has so much NIL that they can pay significant money to a role player, or Iowa St has absolutely zero to give to Fr of the year in the Big 12.
How many freshman started at PG for a P5 school and enjoyed the honors and recognition Tyrese earned?FRESHMAN of the Year. That is an award versus all other FRESHMEN. Which All Conference Team was Tyrese Hunter on? Nijel Pack was 1st Team All Big 12.
Freshman of the Year. How many Freshmen starters in the Big 12 this year?
Tyrese is extremely talented. But you are overhyping Freshman of the Year. It’s big. But not All Big 12 or anything like that IMO

I don't doubt at all he will get more money wherever else he ends up. That is the reason he is transferring. As we all know. The grass may not be greener, but I guarantee his wallet will have more green in it
In Blum & Williams podcast they mentioned Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky & UNC being active in the NIL marketplace.
Would be curious to see a list of programs that currently have the ability provide athletes with $100k or greater in NIL to a single athlete. I would guess most SEC programs are there and schools in large metros like Ohio State, Texas & So Cal.

It's just hard to tell if chasing the money will pay off in the long run. Look at Collin Gillespie's (star Nova PG) most recent tweet regarding the matter. Literally said "the grass isn't always greener" -- I assume he knows a lot more about the portal, NIL etc than us.
I honestly thought of this as well. He was the star against LSU and helped lead us to a S16... IF we were to get bounced in the 1st round I think it is less likely were in this postion. If this is mostly true, perhaps him having the game of his life in the tournament on the big stage, in Wisconsin no less, came back to bite us. What a great moment for him, tho, in front of his family and friends.
Just hope he goes somewhere that I can cheer for him vs. having to watch us play him two or three times a season.
I don't know. But this model is not sustainable. Common sense comes into play at some point.Okay,,, I get it says 'anonymity', but it says the Athletic reviewed 3 recent signed NIL deals. So, are these made available to the public or not? Or they got lucky and a player/family/school collective told them?
Do you really believe 1 team is going to have such a collection of talent that they have no available scholarships, but give $250k to a guy to walk on? That 13th scholarship guy is for sure getting booted. But as others have pointed out, what is to prevent a school (collective) to give a kid $250k to walk-on at that school, thus not even using a scholly.
