Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

I would like to think no major decision like this is based on one single factor. I also think it's a possibility that he's a basketball junkie that dreamed of playing for an elite program, but never got the chance out of high school. Those opportunities are now more likely.

I also think it didn't help that there wasn't a real core to Iowa St's team this year. Hunter was the only freshmen, and as of last week only 1 of 4 returning to the team. That's just how it's likely to be going forward.

I don’t think people understand what living in actual poverty is. It’s not just the lack of funds, it’s the constant grind to get funds.

Every amount of money looks different to different people. $50,000 to TH and his family looks a lot different than it does to mine. CREAM. Everything in this world is about 2 things; money & politics.

I think a class like 2022 with King, Lipsey, and Watson are more likely to stick together, if they can mesh, and all find their role. If TJ can follow that with a couple more in 2023, then you have a core.

Odds are they won't all be good enough to play a significant role, and maybe someone like Momcilovic blows up after a year and leaves early, but that's when you use the portal and get guys that fit.

Real question is how high does the real number need to be? "Can we get a $100k?"

Probably depends on the feedback they get. $750k is a likely trial balloon. Offer that and it is a school Hunter likes then he is gone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder however. Young players have weaknesses that schools might overlook attributing those weaknesses to be a result of lack of experience or not being fully mature physically. Hunter is a gifted athlete. No doubt. But he is a small PG. And despite his talent he does not possess size. Something that is coveted in the pros.

I'm trying to figure out how TJ is going to score more than the team. I mean if he shoots from the bench they aren't going to count that bucket...

If he coached Kansas they might

Refs would huddle and afterwards award him the three and a foul after the shot for two and also award Kansas possession. Might even toss in a technical on the opposing bench just for good measure.

Get your point, but it made me think how I'm much more concerned I'd be that Momcilovic continues to blow up as he's adding more offers and commits to a blue blood, or gets a big NIL offer to commit. than I am concerned he would leave early.

Good. Better a little late than never. It seemed reactive to Tyrese leaving as he was pretty much gone before this tweet came out

the tweet wasn't the start of the collective... lmao. been in the works for months, and was hinted at on premium before Tyrese announced.

I get that, but let's be honest, there's only so many scholarships available at blue blood schools, and only so much money that they can afford to pay every year. Even at a school like UK or Arkansas, I can't see them paying $50k to the 13th scholarship, especially if they're paying $500k to the top 3-5.

Currently Momcilovic is top 50, so he's probably right on the edge of being an option for Iowa St. At this point, we're banking on a great relationship with our staff, and maybe he or his family doesn't need the payday.

The Athletic reviewed three recently signed name, image and likeness contracts, each with a different school collective. A four-star receiver will make more than $1 million over four years; a defensive lineman ranked in the top 10 at his position will make $1 million over three years; and a three-star defensive lineman will make $500,000 over four years. The Athletic agreed to preserve the anonymity of all parties involved.

Neither does poor handles and not being able to finish at the rim.

Hunter is a good player with a lot of upside, but if I’m UNC I gotta think my current guards are probably better, and so are the ones I could bring in. But we’ll see?

Sometimes a players ability goes beyond stats. Hunter was Big12 freshman of the year. He ran ISU's offense and was a lockdown defender. He thrived in a role that Morris & Halliburton didn't have thrust upon them.

Who knows if Hunter will be an NBA player. But he is a college hoops STUD. He doesn't have to shoot great from 3 to be a STUD. He can make the guys around him better and be a coach on the floor.

People need to get over it. Hunter is going to make more money by entering the portal than just about everyone on this board has made jumping to a new job.

And I don't blame Wendy, Jamie, TJ or Matt if they don't want to play in the NIL marketplace in the current dynamic.

Okay,,, I get it says 'anonymity', but it says the Athletic reviewed 3 recent signed NIL deals. So, are these made available to the public or not? Or they got lucky and a player/family/school collective told them?
