Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

What I think caused all of this was the fact that Tyrese stayed in Wisconsin after the Sweet 16, working out with a trainer there, and being around all those he knew before Iowa State (friends/past coaches/"handlers"). After having such a successful season at ISU I am sure he was influenced by those "back home" to go test and "max out" the NIL market. (One of his close HS friends did just that, by transferring to Wisconsin from a smaller school).
Kamari Mcgee left Green Bay to go to Wisconsin. Without doing research, I'd be pretty surprised if he's getting any significant NIL money. Unless Wisconsin has some general fund that pays all their players a certain amount.

Evan Miya's portal rankings are based off analytics, but the top end are still pretty accurate compared to opinion based rankings.
Mcgee is ranked 1333 out of 1388.

Campbell would have taken ND job. And I would not have blamed him.

Hunter had a helluva game against LSU. 7 3-pointers. That game is what is driving this. Plus he is a Freshman. Potential. We don’t know if he will be consistent shooting in the future. We do know he is extremely quick and talented. His size will be an issue going forward. IMO the publicity from that breakout game is what is driving this. Craig Brackens rode his big Kansas game into being a pretty high NBA pick.
He could have had Notre Dame.

Sorry for my ignorance (just heard about the Hunter news this morning) but what were the rumors from the weekend? Basically what I gathered is a random UNC fan tweeted what appeared to be speculation of Hunter transferring to UNC. Obviously the transfer part is fact now. Anything else? I would read through the thread and gather the rest of the info but most is 92 pages of people freaking out.

How many of those teams on the list offered him out of high school? Probably close to zero because he wasn't good enough to play for them. Now all of a sudden he is?

You guys know what's going to happen, it's going to allow blue bloods to essentially hold tryouts for players to build on the following season.

Duke or Carolina will show some interest in a freshman "We don't have a scholarship for you now, but go play at Iowa State for a year and if you prove yourself you'll hear from us next year."

Then they can just pick and choose from the players that proved they could play at that level. It will essentially make any freshman or recruits bust proof for them.

That's it basically. Original rumors tied him to UNC for $750k. Likely the amount and/or UNC will not be true.

But I have found it odd that the rumors started from the UNC side, and not from Iowa St end. I'm not the most connected to everything Iowa St, but from the sounds of it, even the rumors were a complete shock to Iowa St followers. So how is it UNC fans know before us?

All of that was already happening though prior to NIL.

Yeah this proves that, Mcgee was a low level transfer who got at least some money. I also don't assume Mcgee got a ton of money but I'm willing to believe (given they both worked out together at the same gym in Wisconsin the past few months) he told Tyrese what he got/was offered and it was enough to make Tyrese think "Well shoot, if he's get $XXX I wonder what I could be getting." Tyrese knowing that he is the far better player between the two.

Also, CW stated on their most recent pod, after talking to coaches around the nation that the "going rate" for and good player in the portal is $300k-$500k...

How many of these schools are legitimate options for Hunter, as opposed to just a gigantic list of “name” programs the author of the article pulled together?

I mean he’s really ******* good. Like really good. He was already borderline 5 star coming out of HS. Everyone wants him, just a matter of making him fit in the puzzle.

If that means Iowa St gets a top 50 talent every year, yeah sign me up. Then it's TJ's job to put experienced players around them, and coach them up.

I find the 300k to 500k really hard to believe.

The initial tweet I saw was from some guy saying he heard that from one of his "group chats." (The TH to transfer portal then to UNC). That was back on like Friday. I wonder what group chat that was or how they got that info?

Dude…I’m not arguing that. The post I quoted made an assumption as if the list of teams in that article are real suitors for Hunter. I’m stating that’s not necessarily true. The article is a list of schools the author throw down and wrote about how Hunter could fit or why they might make sense.

Could he end up at one of the schools in that article? Yep. Just as easily as a school not on that list.
