I'm hearing we can expect to see Tyrese's name in the portal by next week. This really sucks, but when all your friends are getting paid to go to a different school, it's hard to argue with that decision. Heard UNC is unlikely, but it sounds like, at the minimum, he's going to test the water.
I drunk googled yesterday it looks like once the school is notified by the player they have 2 business days to put a player on the portal so Tuesday next week?

our donors are going to have to consider reallocating their money from projects like overhead crosswalks to potentially NIL if we want to do well in free agency.
As soon as NIL came about, wouldn’t that conversation occur?

Increasing fan spending to meet even modest NIL is preferable, but redirecting some current fan spending to NIL absolutely needed at minimum. JP will just have to implement some austerity on the non-revenue sports to cover or get creative like any else that gets paid to grow revenue. Long term in will result in more revenue. Players and coaches drive revenue.

Even borrow if needed. It’s always been an oddity we can finance things with minuscule chance of measurable ROI, but a top-40 pg that was Big 12 FOY? Too risky. If it’s a cash problem, get a sponsor in exchange for equity/upside. ISU made x on ISU MBB? Sell whatever growth would come from having $2 million in NIL until the sponsor is made whole- the sponsor donating the time value of money and incurring the risk.

All of his friends? As in AAU friends? His HS teammate that is going to WI?
All I heard was friends. Not sure if it's previous teammates, or kids he's got to know through basketball. No idea where. But if he can get paid, it's hard to judge the kid for that.

Don't know about all of that. All I know is what I was told. Which is expect to see his name in the portal next week.

I don't want this to happen. It basically ruined my night last night, and a good part of my day today.

I’m all for paying him.
Although, knowing this a couple weeks ago wouldn’t have hurt.
Bingo. Just feels like bad timing for ISU given what we've heard about who they've been going after. Knowing you need to find a ball dominant guard a few weeks ago vs now is just massive given how quick things move this time of year.

Who knows what will happen until it actually happens. I hope it's all a big scam, but I don't see it being that way at this point.

Our biggest selling point this off-season has been Tyrese. So if he leaves, that is going to hurt more then help with getting these guys.

For some reason it feels worse that he's not getting an absurd amount from UNC or some other blue blood. Now it just sounds like wants out of Iowa St.

Sure, go get paid, but I'll be pretty disappointed if we lose him to some $50k or $100k deal.

Not sure we'll ever know exactly what kind of deal he'll get, but I'll be pretty disappointed if we lose him to some $50k or $100k deal.
I'd definitely feel better if he just went pro and made way more than that anyway. Even if he didn't make an NBA roster immediately, he'd make way more than that overseas and could take the Matt Thomas approach, one year abroad into NBA contracts.

Sort of like the wife who wants to know if the woman her husband was seeing is a 10 only to find out it was the bearded lady at the carnival.

If it’s 50k or 100k, and we can’t close the gap enough for him to not take this risk, we need an overhaul. Fans and AD. Does anyone know TJ? If it’s that little, let’s knock this out on CF.

So you’re right, I assume he declined our match and would just want out at that amount

Ive said for along time ISU has cheap fans that won’t fund NIL stuff.
