Cant blame him if the figures being thrown around are true. Just really sucks for us. Its the wild west out there right now with NIL.

Not enjoying a NC on some set of misguided principles would be absolutely insane. Hate to break it to you but this Is how it’s always worked.

I guess the difference that I see is that in the past guys were paid during the recruiting process. They chose a school based on the bagmen, but they chose a team and they played basketball. Now, we're seeing the big programs pluck guys off of other rosters whenever they need to reload rather than grabbing the best HS recruit they can find. Even pulling guys off the transfer portal seemed less sleazy because they showed intentions to leave their school before you started throwing offers at them.

Somebody was asking when the first blue blood will stop recruiting HS players and just go after transfers; but I could see many schools at all levels go all in on only transfers. Less time on recruiting, so if you lose a recruit at the last second you only wasted a couple weeks instead of 2 years. You see how they play in actually college games. And you have a little bit more protection from them transferring out with the 1 year sit rule.

Midmajors could create powerhouses from 4 and 5 stars that failed in the P6. Blue bloods just buy who they want. And schools like us shuffle between transfers up who outgrew mid majors and transfers down who didn’t quite live up to their rating. Maybe a few transfers over for players that didn’t quite fit in their current situation.

Who knows what will happen to HS recruiting. Maybe just take 2 random kids a year. It’s not like they’re gonna be there long anyway.

So this thread got me thinking.(as I read some thoughts about this stuff making people get turned off by college bball).....how would we as fans feel if, say, the Sukup family went "all in" for one year and did NILs and built a super team, knowing it was a "one shot" to stack the deck and we won the Big 12 and then made a final four run? (Let's say we even win it)

Would people enjoy that banner hanging in Hilton?

I personally wouldnt....but also recognize for this time period this is what we are up against. I hope things "recenter" some.

They didn't just make up the plot to this movie.
And that was 30 years ago!

That is an interesting take Capn.

Because I remember distinctly how when GMAC was floundering how a majority on this site would state how they would rather lose with "integrity" than win the "Rucker Park way" with Wayne Morgan.

After 15 years of being on CF IMO at ISU I believe it's more of a cult of personality thing.

All things being equal (NIL).....I think had Sukup done it while say Prohm was coach.....a majority on CF would not consider it legit because all the players would have been thought of as bought and paid for assassins that Prohm really didn't recruit. And "we don't need to win that way at ISU" just like the thinking with Morgan and Rucker Park.

It gets done under someone like GMAC, Fred or TJ............well "everyone does it" so what's wrong with it being done at ISU?

On CF it isn't about the right on wrong of doing it..............it's more about who is the coach when it's being done.

Great take Capn!

I don’t mind cheating to win a National title since everyone else is doing it.

Much less risk by recruiting D1 transfers rather than HS kids because they’re a lot less likely to transfer because they would have to sit out. This is a HR for UNC (if true) because he’s really good but I don’t think he’s leaving after SOPH year for sure.

Yea, guaranteed this dude complains about his preferred pro sports teams about not spending enough
I don't have a pro team....and I'm not agreeing or disagreeing....my point was more to just do a hypothetical.

I recognize these are the current circumstances of college athletics.

Nothing about this story is true.

- UNC is loaded at point guard. You have junior RJ Davis, a McDonald's All American, who just took UNC to the national championship game. You have Caleb Love, a 5-star McDonald's All American, who is probably coming back. You have incoming freshman Seth Trimble, a top 40 recruit. Then we have 5-star Simeon Wilcher coming in 2023.

- UNC currently has no open scholarships. If one were to open up, the immediate priority would be to find a stretch 4 who can offset the loss of 6'9" 3-point marksman Brady Manek. If a 2nd scholarship were to open up, the 2nd priority would be another wing scorer.

- InsideCarolina is the most heavily trafficked college basketball board on the planet. They haven't missed a scoop on UNC basketball in 20 years. Nobody on their premium board even knew who Tyrese Hunter was until somebody popped in to say "have you guys seen the rumor Iowa State fans are spreading?"

No one associated with UNC is spending $750,000 on a guard who shoots 27% from 3pt range. No one from UNC is tampering with a player who doesn't even have the slightest chance of getting minutes on our team next year considering we are loaded at his position next year (and for the foreseeable future.) I'm honestly a bit concerned you guys have taken such an obviously nonsensical rumor and run this far with it. This is flat earther level conspiracy nonsense.

I know what you mean, but the big schools have bought their teams for years, and they don’t lose sleep when they hang the banners. Winning and success brings in fans and money. With how fast everything is changing, I don’t think we have the time to sit around and save our resources for the future. Bet big now and hope it pays off.
Very fair take.

And I agree....these are the new rules/landscape currently.

You better be right (unless you're just saving face) cuz I was just told by somebody their source was from the team and it is true.

I hope you are right, but would bet my left nut that Tyrese leaves, if not for NC, then another school.

Good take....I think that is spot on and I recognize this is all a moving target too.
