Why would it being publicly announced impact the information being true or a rumor?

With the caveat that who the hell knows what is happening or what will happen...

I think what he's saying is that he tweeted something he heard on the understanding that it had either already happened or was imminent, and later was informed it was just a rumor and/or not as far along as he was led to believe.

The guy got out over his skis. To his credit, he's trying to correct himself.

Pretty premature to say he's top 20 in next year's draft as well, although if he is top 20 in the draft at his height it would mean he's a first team All American easily.

He doesn't have a 7 foot wingspan like Haliburton.
Yeah I would challenge some people who think this could happen or think it will.

He shot 27% from 3, and actually turned the ball over at a really high rate. UNC is a blue blood with their pick of 4 and 5 star point guards. Would he really be that attractive to them??? I looked at their team this year and don't think he would have seen the floor.

Would you take a short term pay day to maybe play at UNC? I just don't know it it makes sense (for UNC or for Tyrese)

Yes, soccer has no salary cap and the players make more money than any sport in the world
A big part is in marketing. The NFL makes more per team.

And soccer still has rules. They have contracts. Teams have to agree to transactions with players under contract. It is not just annual FA for everyone every offseason.

I disagree. That feels like hindsight or something personal. I watched as much of the tournament as I ever have.

I'd say the biggest negative difference I've noticed is that they're reaching the point of oversaturation. There used to be more of a magic to those first four days because we couldn't watch every game, every court was different, and it felt more organic. Now we have the same broadcasting crews, the same courts, the same 3 commercials, and we can switch from game to game with ease. It's commercialized to the extreme.

More to your point, we've had transfers for awhile now. Of all schools, we should be used to it. But I agree that if it gets to the point where we're actually paying players hundreds of thousands of dollars to switch schools, I'll check out without hesitation, and I love college sports more than anything. I like it for the traditions and the ties to the school and community. Pro sports are lifeless, and their fans are worse.
After only 1 tournament for ISU since 2017, I watched way more of this tournament.

I think you're correct with it being online and full access, it has lost a little bit.

I also think age has a lot to do with it. I mean, it is unfair to compare watching the NCAA tournament as a middle-aged adult with perspective (but posts online?) to watching those 90's and 2000's teams while skipping class. My parents watched/watch the tournament then, even attended, but that Thursday-Friday of Round 1 were holy days back then. Add that you could only watch what was shown in your area, and when they would cut-in to another game for a close finish, it was like breaking news.

Also, agree on the transfers. There are fewer Fred Hoibergs/georges/Morris. Not only ISU guys, but I remember most of the KU starting lineups from that time. You knew the stats around the country. That is also likely a function of being a kid with nothing more important than ISU/college basketball, but staying 4 years helps

I'm not a site owner, publisher, or moderator. I have no investment in their website other than I pay a small amount to support this business. Therefore, I don't give a **** if their info gets leaked.

But you think THEY won't? Are all of you stupid?
Well.

That's twice. I think you're stupid for calling a fellow Cyclone(s) stupid. That's kind of stupid. LOL

Maybe a different adjective would be nice.

This thread is gonna feel like a fever dream tomorrow morning
Perhaps. But it’s not far off from what TJ is having to compete with.

Is there any doubt dozens of schools are willing to pay Kyle Green a ton of money for AJ as scholarship #14. If we’re not willing to do something like that it’s rather disappointing imo

So this thread got me thinking.(as I read some thoughts about this stuff making people get turned off by college bball).....how would we as fans feel if, say, the Sukup family went "all in" for one year and did NILs and built a super team, knowing it was a "one shot" to stack the deck and we won the Big 12 and then made a final four run? (Let's say we even win it)

Would people enjoy that banner hanging in Hilton?

I personally wouldnt....but also recognize for this time period this is what we are up against. I hope things "recenter" some.

750k isn't much. If that's the going rate, then JP needs to get off his soapbox and get the well connected ISU people together at a "compliance" meeting and get a NIL group started.

Long-term, it would be better to have 1000 season ticket holders to instead do NIL. It wouldn't even need to be 1000, as buying a player is much better than donating to a building for most small donors.

Yep. And they HAVE to make it as easy as possible for regular people like me to be able to throw a few hundred bucks in the pot whenever we can/want.

Gofundme style.
If there was a place to donate toward Johni Broome coming to Iowa St, and if he didn't then you get your money back... I'd be inclined to donate 3 figures.
Kind of ****** for the iowa st players that are on roster though.

I would pay $500 right now via Venmo if guaranteed Hunter would play at Iowa State next year and I’m not rich by any means. I’m guessing we could could find $750,000 in just a few days. However, that in and of itself, opens up a whole new can of worms.

Look at my post count. I am susceptible to wasting my life on ISU athletics, let alone my money.

If JP's designated NIL solicitor hits me after drinking and he'll have no problem swaying me. In the euphoria of celebrating the WI win, I'd probably sell assets to buy another scorer for next year. And I hate to go there, but there are certain marketing techniques that do very well on hot tailgate days.

Compliance is kind of an issue. Many AD's have used "compliance" training as a way to help shape and organize the NIL efforts.

You guys had the ability all year to put money directly in Tyrese’s pocket and get a personal video and it was only like $40. He must have turned it off recently though. Just saying

A good chunk of the bball team is on here too if you want to start throwing dollars: https://www.cameo.com/browse/athletes/ncaa/big-12/iowa-state

I think what we're saying is that we're more inclined to pay for the new, highly sought after recruit. Or if we had to, pay to keep a current player that another school is trying to take, like this scenario.

But, as I said, this sucks for the current team members that are committed to the team, but are less likely to get a paycheck.

So you’re ok to run with something that came from a random dude on Twitter but we need multiple sources to verify a ISD reporter who probably has connections in the program? Makes sense

Not at all. It should have been brushed off. I’m talking about journalistic integrity as a whole. 2 sources not 1.

Lol.

If this is ISU’s response to NIL, JP needs to go. Disparate, unorganized donating isn’t what’s needed.

I actually thought the 1st two weekends were pretty fun the final was pretty chalk but at least a school from the B12 won.

Yeah there were some great games, and ISU's run was cool, etc., but there just seemed to be something 'missing' and to me it's the parity. A 15 making the Elite Eight wasn't even surprising.

As somebody who has tried to raise money for ISU sports - NIL will be very bad for us. We do not have the people with the big $ to compete with the elite. We lose in bidding wars.
