Unless EVERY one of these NIL deals is “new” money that would have never been available/donated to the school then the fundraising efforts have to be getting harder for NCC, I-Club, whatever your school has.
That fundraising was largely for the infrastructure and coaching arms race- a means to buy players indirectly. That is horribly inefficient way to get wins.
Getting better players much more efficient and effect way to donate to get wins. In many ways, ISU is at less of a disadvantage if the AD had been out front. Facilities building are an even more expensive game in comparison. History and tradition not something you can even buy. 500k for a difference making starter in basketball is far more feasible for smaller donors.
This is why guys like Saban complain, even though they still have the upper hand. In the old way- building new locker-room every 10 years and history/tradition, they have damn near a monopoly. Obviously, if Iowa St can't manage to raise or redirect 500k of its available resources, then there is no system that it will survive in. But with a competent AD, this is not bad for the middle or low class.
