If it's actually a thing and he goes for some good money, good for him.

However this past NCAA tournament was really pretty 'meh' and a lot of that had to do with all the free agency imo.

This will all only get worse.

What is wrong with the system?

My only issue is that unlike the professional leagues, there are no rules. That works okay in the short term, and is a boon for current players. But would there be as much money to be made by players if those leagues had no salary caps, no free agency rules etc?
Yes, soccer has no salary cap and the players make more money than any sport in the world

I agree. I’m usually really excited for the tournament. Maybe it’s me getting older, but this year I wasn’t into it as much as I was in the past.

I just see the good teams looking at purchasing players like free agency.

However, if he’s not in the portal yet wouldn’t it be tampering? Or would it be like a poster said the NIL deals are done before the kid actually leaves school

THIS. Regardless of what happens with Tyrese, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what is coming. This will become a worse problem than the transfer portal in no time. It really could be the end of college athletics. It absolutely sucks and becomes nearly unwatchable.

I think this is why some coaches/schools are not jumping right in. They are watching to see the NIL impacts over the next couple are years from a team dynamic standpoint.
  • Will animosity develop among players if NIL payments are inconsistent with player performance. Afterall, we are talking about 18-22 year old's who haven't have a lot of life experiences.
  • If NIL money is for 1-year, what does the player do year 2? Change schools looking for the better deal.
  • If universities take an active role in NIL fundraising, does it create Title IX issues.
  • What type of dynamic does NIL money have with player families, handlers, etc. In the past parents could call and complain why their kid isn't playing. In the future is the conversation "Show Me the Money".

I wonder if coaches will see the landscape and might try and try and provide some necessary boundaries for this instead of joining the fray.

The NCAA should have gotten ahead of this years ago and now this thing has just gotten out of hand.

Your periodic reminder that "the NCAA" is really just a conglomerate of universities and their administrators. We all got ourselves into this mess; it was not just foisted upon us.

The NCAAs complete inability to lead and map out NIL has led to nothing more than 1 year free agent contracts for your entire roster followed by an open market.

Had the NCAA been able to define and regulate NIL, we wouldn't be here.

In a true free market the very best players are worth whatever a GLeague player is worth with 5-10 exceptions a year in all college sports.

The gigantic money is 99% from the university brand and fandoms/alumni linked to it. Brands and fandoms subsidized, built up and created by student tuition and often state tax payers.

It’s a house of cards if/when interest starts to wane.

Is it credible? He states “source”.. don’t journalist need two “sources” to be credible?

Unless he talked to Hunter himself… I doubt that happened.
So you’re ok to run with something that came from a random dude on Twitter but we need multiple sources to verify a ISD reporter who probably has connections in the program? Makes sense

I disagree. That feels like hindsight or something personal. I watched as much of the tournament as I ever have.

I'd say the biggest negative difference I've noticed is that they're reaching the point of oversaturation. There used to be more of a magic to those first four days because we couldn't watch every game, every court was different, and it felt more organic. Now we have the same broadcasting crews, the same courts, the same 3 commercials, and we can switch from game to game with ease. It's commercialized to the extreme.

More to your point, we've had transfers for awhile now. Of all schools, we should be used to it. But I agree that if it gets to the point where we're actually paying players hundreds of thousands of dollars to switch schools, I'll check out without hesitation, and I love college sports more than anything. I like it for the traditions and the ties to the school and community. Pro sports are lifeless, and their fans are worse.

Is there a case for tampering? He isn’t in the portal, so other schools aren’t supposed to be contacting. Right?

It is UNC the University of Northern Colorado(UNC) will be the one that gets penalized if there would be any penalty LOL.

If Hunter feels our offense and the talent around him is impacting his ability to showcase his true capabilities and subsequently his future, then I don't blame him for leaving. Otz will need to show that his teams can play offense as well.

Who needs scholarships? Why couldn't a few donors just create a "charity" and pay Tyrese a million dollars (or two) to say a few nice things about said charity? NIL is going to **** Iowa State athletics in the long run.

No, no, no there are threads where many explained to those of us who are unenlightened how great it is for college athletics and the athletes both.

I actually thought the 1st two weekends were pretty fun the final was pretty chalk but at least a school from the B12 won.
