Bouman Transferring

Well the only other scholarship guy he could have passed was Dekkers. There were plenty of whispers last year that it was Cook in 3rd place last year and not Bouman. So this isn’t surprising.

Rocco seems like a kid Campbell will love so I’m guessing he’ll be unofficially 2nd string next year.
With Rocco being a true freshman and Dekkers a rshirt soph, makes you wonder if at some time they redshirt Rocco. They're allowed to play 4 games and save their redshirt now days right?

Correct.

Different discussion but I can't for the life of me figure out why the NCAA hasn't bit the bullet and just gone with 5 year eligibility in all sports.

The next time the ncaa makes a logical decision; it’ll be the first time.

Well, I know that change would make the extremely large number of players entering the transfer portal even larger.

To clarify, I assume you mean redshirting becomes obsolete, everyone is allowed 5 years?
Correct. Coaches have wanted it for years and you might as well pull the trigger. There's no need to have a kid sit for an entire year when he can help you in spots but not play enough to burn a whole year.

Would also solve all the medical hardship/transfer waiver problems.

Pray Dekkers doesn't get injured. Would've loved to have Bouman available as the primary back-up with potential to take over if he was successful. While Dekkers has shown flashes he isn't exactly a known commodity either.

Thanks, that's how I interpreted your post. It seems to make sense -- or at minimum, simplifies it.

If Brecht and Cook are better, why would you want Bouman to play?

Also, Bouman is 6'6" 250#!?! I didn't realize he was that big - wow.

Also, I think some people were expecting Brecht to come in and win the starter's job this year. It seems pretty clear, though, that the staff are going with Dekkers and would like to redshirt Brecht if possible.
Of course, it won't really matter who the #2 is on paper unless Dekkers is ineffective or hurt. At that point we'll see how much they actually trust Cook to start or if they go ahead and burn the redshirt to get Rocco in.
Becht, please.

I thought Bouman looked pretty good during the drills and some parts of the scrimmage I saw before I had to leave pretty early, but I wouldn't trust my eye for talent. He made some decent throws, thought a good one with a really bad drop, and had few misses, but seemed like they had good touch and looked good. Cook (or Glantz, don't remember) had a deep ball that was pretty wobbly but that was also one of the very few passes I saw from them, so it's very possible I saw the only bad pass they threw... I was looking forward to see Bouman in mop up duties (until maybe Becht passed him up) but wish him the best in his next school!

From a few people in the know...Bouman is the last one we'd want on the field. There's a reason he fell to 4th or 5th string after the two new kids showed up this semester.

Also, everyone says he's a phenomenal kid and person. Hope things work out for him elsewhere.

Also, I don't think the general Cyclone fan has any idea how high the staff and players are on Dekkers. He's going to be BIG TIME.

Why would you want the 4th or 5th best QB on the roster to be the backup? Doesn’t make sense?

There’s a good reason he’s transferring, he would never play here.

Yeah, I think the conversation now is about QB2...presumably Becht, which puts me personally at ease. I love our QB room and wish Bouman the very best. Good luck to him!

Here's a thought: I think it's great that we have quarterbacks, at Iowa State of all places, who seem to be really skilled, accurate passers. From all accounts, Dekkers looks really promising, Becht was highly touted at the Summer camps he attended, and we are getting serious consideration from Kohl for 2023. If Cook is really good too, that's just incredible! All of this coming after Brock Purdy set all the records. We are not your Dad's Iowa State any longer.... and I should know, I'm old enough to be your Dad (well, for a lot of you anyway). ;)
