I was wondering how long it's taken ppl to get their Iowa tax return back? I got my federal return 22 days ago and still haven't received my Iowa refund. Just curious Thanks

It took me a long time to get the state refund. Filed on Feb. 15. Return was deposited March 21.

4-6 weeks is what I tell my clients

And you think that's bad it took me 2.5 months and 4 trips to the Iowa Department of Revenue Office to get a sales tax refund for a client in which the state made a mistake.

Iowa's been late for years. A month to six weeks is pretty much standard now.

My Fed refund was really fast: 3 weeks. State pay in deposited in 7 days including the post office delivery time.

I usually get my state refund way before my federal, but not the last several years in my state (not Iowa). I had sort of an unusual situation this year. My state refund was actually quite a bit larger than my federal by about $300. That's the first time that's happened. My federal is usually more than $1,000 more than state. I normally don't have to file taxes since retiring, but I took a charge against my retirement fund last year, which was quite a bit above the maximum you can take and still not have to pay taxes on it. I had them take a percentage out for state and federal taxes so I wasn't hit with a big tax bill come April.

Always have to pay State Tax....Failed to update my W-4, with losing 2 dependents last year and wife making extra $ last year due to pandemic. Nearly an $8K swing in tax liability with a refund in 2021 to owing 2022 for Federal and State. Switched to filing separately and reduced the sting considerably on the state portion.

BTW: Also found out the IRS does not care that you got a refund the previous year, if you don't withhold enough, they assess a penalty...Bunch of BS if you ask me.

Your BTW is not a hard and fast truth. I owe a $1000+ this year to federal due to a number of factors but no penalty. I also owed last year, a much smaller amount, and no penalty. You may want to review your tax prep software or have another visit with your preparer. And, your circumstances may have been different from mine of course.
