Agree, can't settle. (But who da thunk Robert would finish the last month playing more than Enaruna?) Gonna be so hard to get an athletic big man from a power 5, cuz every team including blue bloods want them.

If you want to be good in big 12, you have to get good big players. That means competing on recruiting trail for those few guys.

Serious question: How is the staff handling the need to get in early with these transfers while preparing for March Madness? Is there one staff member assigned to this? This transfer portal thing seems a whole new aspect of recruiting.

It's not new. Been around for several years. Just part of filling a roster now. Better be old hat for tj.

I know its been said that majority of low major don't excel when transferring to high major, then you see Atkinson from ND (transfer from Yale) do what he did last night.....man, TJ needs to find him/get him an Atkinson type.

Just by taking a look at ISU's bench during games and the number of red/white polos that sit on and around it, TJ seems to have plenty of able bodies that can probably be out on the trail right now.

Only 'so' many coaches are allowed to recruit. Not sure about 'contacting' transfers or recruits tho.

His value may extend beyond what he offers on the court, as a tone setter. If nothing else, he may have helped establish the effort level that got them to where they are today.

I don't think isu fans appreciate what Jones did. He got us to the dance . His defense and ability to actually move his feet were the difference. Not going to make it without some size. Conditt just doesn't have either skill

And he was recruited to get minutes behind Conditt… and Xavier Foster… and Blake Hinson. Jones, I’d argue, wildly exceeded expectations.

The Ivy is a good league. Might be more mid-major than low, but the lines are pretty blurry. Seems every year there are Ivy Leaguers that go to P6 programs and succeed.

Sorry, I never know whether to use low major or mid major. Is it enrollment size or conference that decides it? Or is it opinion? Yes, obviously some good Ivy Leaguers.

Admittedly I don't know aside from a general gut feeling. Not thinking enrollment, but maybe someone more in the know could shed light on it. Could be some ranking system similar to NET, RPI, BPI etc.

Idk, but a few of the really good transfer prospects the board has mentioned have already had contact with our coaches, so they seem to be on top of it

It’s not that difficult to get a kid’s phone number and shoot them a text. Or even more likely, a Twitter or Instagram DM

I don’t pay attention to the portal itself, but from what gets posted here there seem to be dozens of names already and more every day. There has to be some immediate analysis of each one. Is he worth a contact? Is TJ involved in that initial assessment? Or is there a staff member entrusted with it, someone with little or no involvement in game prep?

I don't know why, but I'm curious about the process.

It’s leaked weeks in advance who is going to transfer usually. A bunch of transfer portal prep work can be done weeks in advance
