NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

I disagree that extra time usually sucks I guess, but even still a shootout doesn't come down to who can get the ball first and score.

If the Bills tie it up then they keep playing, I don't see the problem there.

But when does it stop? The quality is going to drop pretty fast.

I know I'm just being a devils advocate but I don't see how playing another quarter or half gives you a better result.

My wife and I were debating the kickoff.

She was all about squib kicking to use clock.

I was kick it out of the endzone because I didn't want the chance for the ball to get into Hill's hands.

Yeah, in hindsight you squib it, but in the moment I'm making it a priority that Hill never gets a chance to touch it.

It was obvious the Chiefs were a lot more prepared to play those scenarios out, and Buffalo just played a more generic strategy.

Knowing whether or not AR will be back, probably will impact Green Bay's free agency strategy. I'm sure AR views it as magnanimity to let them know sooner rather than later.
I don't see AR coming back. He either retires, or demands a trade. It will be interesting to see what a team will give up for a 38 year old selfish diva that might retire at any moment. He looked so disinterested saturday night, and it was costly.

If you play 10 more minutes and one team is ahead that is a natural conclusion for a game that is based on a time limit. If neither team is ahead then either play again, or figure something else out, maybe a college like OT system, whatever the case may be. Either way, ending the game all of a sudden because one team scored a touchdown when there's time left feels bad, especially when they got the ball based on a coin flip.

Killing the game doesn't exactly lend to higher quality, either. That's why I'd say score-based win condition works best for NFL OT versus any timed one. That part alone is fine. It's just odd that a team can win the game immediately without the other team having an equal chance.

I like the way the NHL does it... except the shootout. Do a 10 minute overtime with 3 on 3 and skip the shootout.

I tend to agree, but AR seems to enjoy being a contrarian. If the talking heads decide that he's leaving, I could see him staying just to spite them. He is incredibly petty when he wants to be.

As a life long Packers fan, I would hate to move on to Love after a string of great QBs but I’m also tired of AR’s whole drama and douchery. Unfortunately, the team got what they deserved after not giving AR what he needed the past 5 years, and AR got what he deserves having been a complete tool despite his amazing talent. Us fans got shafted by both.

People hate college OT? I've never heard this

You‘d be surprised at the number of people who think “it’s not real football” and “you’re taking away the kickoff/punting element” and “you’re making a mockery of the game.”

Not me, I love college OT, give me a good 4 or 5 OT game any time. Not sure I like the part where they just run two-point plays, I liked it just fine before that. But yeah, there are those who do not appreciate college OT rules.

I was listening to Colin Cowturd today and he said the reason the NFL is fine with current OT rules is they want the games to end quickly. He said the league is worried about injuries and fatigue for the winning team going into the next week's game playing even more minutes.

Funny they are so concerned with guys playing a few more minutes but then adding a 17th game I guess doesn't lead to more injury and fatigue.

Even if the kicker tries to land it around the 10-15 yard line?
Probably, or at least they should, any return would kill their chances, unless it’s a big return. It’s possible in the heat of the moment someone would screw up and return it though.

Yeah that’s a BS answer, tell the league they can add in more commercials if the game goes longer and they’d listen.

My proposal is, for playoffs only, an untimed period consisting of each team getting the ball at least once, and if still tied play continues without the option of punting until one team wins. Each offense gets their shot and players are forced to make plays instead of playing conservatively. Defense can also factor in, stop a team on their own 20 on 4th down, you can kick to win immediately.

OT rules:

If the game is in a cold place, have a snow track ready and make each team's captains complete a biathlon.

If the game is in a dome, make the captains run through a modern Legend of the Hidden Temple,

If the game is outside in greater than freezing temperatures, play football or something.

Everyone hates the NFL overtime and the College overtime, what do people think would be a good OT? What sport does OT well?

I think the current OT system is fine for regular season play in the NFL.

I would like to see the playoffs with a matching possession after TD/FG or set a time limit of 9 minutes for OT,

What would be the point of the time limit in the playoffs? Somebody still needs to win. I agree the rules could be different for the playoffs and that the regular season rules can stay as they are.
