Housing market

I'm pretty sure his wife is a doctor. We all know nobody on here is making much $ since we spend so much time posting ;)

This is true.

But I actually make (slightly) more than her if you include commissions and bonuses.

Not bad for a history major.

Yes, the engineering majors "congratulating" me on my future career in fast food still smarts.

Does anyone in the metro have experience with DS Solid Construction? They seem like a small builder but the house we looked at seemed to have a lot of detail the others in our price range didn’t have. Everything from hardware to trim to doors etc.

Love it.

I was just giving you a hard time.
I'm pretty sure he lives in the DC area. Massive difference in property values there compared to most of the midwest.

It’s crazy out there. My sibling lived just outside of DC into Maryland and the average home price was over a million. Condos were 400+.

$1.3 MM gets you the median roach motel in Washington, DC.

I think you guys know roughly what that gets you in central Iowa.

Hence the want to move back.

Any recommendations on what towns would be good to buy a house in either Iowa or southern Minnesota? I might have to get my broke ass out of New Mexico, there is basically nothing available here for under 200k.
What type of home are you looking for, and amenities?

You can find real estate for under 200,000 in just about every city in Iowa and southern Minnesota.

maybe it would make more sense to find a job, and then narrow down the potential cities based on that?

A lot more people working fully remote now, so the job might not be an issue. And while yes, you can find homes for <$200k in just about any city, there's a big difference in the quality & number of options in that range between say, Algona vs Johnston.

We are already seeing a lot of folks who originally moved out of state for jobs coming back "home" to be near family but are now working remote - a big reason why Fannie Mae and Corelogic are predicting a notable rise in home sales for 2022.

Depends where you want to live.

If your goal is <$200K, a lot of small towns will have some inventory.

If you want to live in DSM metro, then at that price you’re looking at a condo or townhome, unless you’re okay with a house needing some TLC.
