And just to remind everyone, the Cuban is just a true freshman. And he is loving ISU and his teammates.
I said the same thing last night. Looks like he is having an absolute blast out there! I’m still holding out caution with my expectations because of how young and raw he is, but man he is fun to watch!

Got tickets from somebody else so we were literally front row, section 132, seats 14 and 15 so we were right front and center. My son basically has 1 move right now he's comfortable with, the half nelson, so when Carr got a pin out of it he was pretty stoked. He told me he had a good time, but I also let him have some Mt. Dew in Johnny's beforehand, so things started out strong for him.
My daughters are both wrestling for the first time this year. 5 year old has wrestled 1 tourney and her go to is get to a leg and not know what to do next. Spent a lot of time getting ridden but she fights like hell! 8 year old has 2 tournaments under her belt and she likes to go upper body or head and snatch a leg. I keep trying to convince her to use that knee walk she does so well and take a good shot but she hasn't pulled the trigger yet. Hard to argue when her way has gotten her 2nd and 1st so far and only 2 of 6 matches were against girls. Sorry for the slight derailment guys I'm just excited and had to brag :D

That’s awesome!!

My daughter is in 8th grade and wants to try it. I’ve been real up front with her about how some of these girls she’d be wresting have been doing it for a long time and she would be way behind from a technique perspective. Trying to talk her into trying some judo first. She has been doing gymnastics since she was a baby, so she’s strong, limber, has high positional awareness and good balance. Feel like gymnastics provides some translative skills in those regards. She’s definitely built like a wrestler.

We’ll see.

Yeah my guy is 9, only done one tourney but he did win all 3 matches, two by pin. I'll be honest I don't think he has the mentality for it - he's kind of too empathetic of a person for it. More than that though I don't think my wife has the mentality for it. ;)

There is a whole family of girls who wrestle in our program, in fact they have a practice just for them, but honestly probably the best technical wrestler in the 2nd/3rd grade room is a girl and she's great.

They wrestled last year with Ferrari winning 5-2. As I recall, Bastida was in it for the 1st two quarters, but then maybe ran out of gas.
The problem against Ferrari will always be mat wrestling. Ferrari basically stall rode his way to an NCAA title last year. He’s probably the only guy that can match Bastida’s athleticism on the feet in the country too. Tough matchup.

The old **** twist.

Ferrari is just so hard to score on. Elite defense already, really long arms and he’s allowed to wrestler on his knees for basically entire matches. Hard to get in on him through those arms while he’s not presenting legs.

Let’s see how Bastida does against Buchanan, at altitude.

Thoughts from the dual the other night. I will echo what a lot have already said. Coaches have these guys turning up after a couple years in the program now. Coleman doesn’t get talked about enough because of the excitement of Bastida but man he looks so good. Hope to see him on the podium in a tough weight. Bastida has some conditioning now and looks phenomenal. Broderson and Devine have made big leaps. Carr is absolutely one of the best we’ve ever seen and it doesn’t go unsaid how great he is. I want to see Parker and Degen on the podium but they have to be able to string matches together at nationals.

Yeah I would think gymnastics would definitely translate well. Might be behind a decent amount of girls experience and technique wise but might not be as bad as you would think. A lot of really good womens senior level wrestlers started closer to middle school. Biggest thing will be just having a good attitude and taking it all in stride. I told my daughter it's cool she won a gold medal but I'm just proud of how hard she wrestled and love that she's having fun with it.

Coleman looks as comfortable as he ever has at 184. Not sure I've seen Marcus wrestle with this much confidence since his senior year in high school. Excited to see how the rest of the season plays out for him
