Midlands Canceled

I know 4 sounds like a stretch, but Coleman and Bastida have looked so good lately. So until they make me think different I’ll pick them to AA. Degen has done it before and he’s a threat to anyone. Parker at 141 is a tough out. Just need 3 of those 4 guys to find their way on and I think it’s time coaches make that happen.
Is Ian going to 41 for sure?

You left out Caleb Helgeson at 174 or 184. I don't think they would grey shirt him? If they didn't think he would good.
Hope they are recruiting the Michigan light weight for 125.
Caden Horwath has visited. He is ranked #3 at 120 and a junior out of Davison, Michigan. Davis verballed to PSU. He is ranked #4 at 120 and a junior out of Dundee, Michigan (Swiderski's high school)

No that’s total speculation on my part. No inside info there
Well, we should know soon.

Also, can we just talk about Coleman for a minute? I feel like in some ways he’s gone under appreciated. He’s put in the work for years and now is sitting in a good place to make a serious run at nationals. Seems like a good guy to have in the room for younger kids who might be more under the radar. Put in the work and good things happen.

Yep - It's too bad that the coaches didn't predict Covid and have a weight management plan for everyone taking that into consideration.

I'm only half kidding ;)

Oh yeah. It all started with Covid. Come on. Pay attention.

As for all the “depth” you talk about… if they can’t compete for AA status/ score points at Nationals is it really depth? I feel some fans are happy to fill out all the weights for dual season. We shouldn’t be happy that we don’t have to forfeit a weight. Right now we are looking at Carr and maybe one more AA. Some combo of Degen, Parker and Bastida. Maybe.

Rojas and Swiderski will not sit behind anyone we have on our roster. That’s just a silly statement. They are Carr level recruits.

Don’t think Coleman has a chance to AA?

Sure. He‘s got a shot and I hope he excels late season. You know how brackets break sometimes he could sneak in there. He’s like 10~12 range now I believe. Coleman has talent he just hasn’t put it together for a season. Maybe this is his year.

Horwath is who I was thinking of. Because Davis is out. Horwath would be a great get. I am also hoping we pick up Hagerty from Waverly or maybe Schon goes at 197 after Bastida?

Maybe you should educate me on what I should be paying attention too. I obviously missed whatever it is that you know... I do believe Covid has had an obvious effect on the weight management issue that some are critical of. IF it wasn't for a Covid 6th year Parker/Degen would have had normal careers and never landed on the same weight class. With covid, I'm assuming the coaches left the door open for both of them to come back for another year and pick the weight class of their choice... (That's what I would have done)

This is not a slight on our recruits, but if you feel it's a "silly statement" then you've obviously written off Redding/DeVine. To say Redding might be better than Rojas or DeVine might be better than Swiderski next year doesn't seam silly at all to me. I remember Cyler Sanderson beating David Taylor his true freshman year. David Taylor was a "Carr level recruit" IIRC. It's a good thing that Drew Foster didn't have to compete with any "Carr level recruits" on his path to a NCAA title. Having a year to RS has helped a lot of guys develop. I'm also hopeful that our current guys show huge improvement and make it tough for these recruits to break into the lineup early in their careers.

"As for all the “depth” you talk about… if they can’t compete for AA status/ score points at Nationals is it really depth?" - I really hope our guys prove you wrong and we have 9 (or 10 guys) that score points in Philly. Realistically, I think we'll have ~ 7 guys score points. I also think that 4 on the stands isn't too far fetched. Here's my most likely to AA order:
- Carr
- Coleman
- Younger
- Degen/Parker (149)
- Parker (IF he goes 141)
- Kysen
- DeVine
- Redding (if he's our guy at 141)
- Schuyler
- Ramazan
- 165 (I'm betting on Judge at this point)

Whatever happens I'll be in Philly cheering them on.

Go Cyclones!

My post to you was obnoxious and I apologize. I pretty much agree with your list. I’d probably swap Devine and Redding but they are close enough that it could be who gets the better draw.

My comments about the roster was more about weight management and having an individual plan for each wrestler. Covid has caused the current Parker/Degen situation. I was thinking more along the lines of the discussion that the plan seems to be Carr moving up next year. If true, I would think having Cam or Paniro gearing up for 157 this year would make some sense. The mid season weight shifts don’t seem to work out too well for many wrestlers \ teams. Since KD came on we’ve had some head scratching mid season shifts, the Gomez off season weight gain, and some guys who don’t seem to be able to manage their weights durning the season and then under perform. I don’t remember any ISU team having these issues to this degree. It seems to be annually at this point. There is a fine line a coach needs to walk between the team needs and individual wresters desires. I think it’s an area ISU can improve at.

I haven’t decided on NCAAs but I will be in Tulsa. Here is to a strong, successful 2nd half of the season.

To me, Something clicked inside Coleman before the Big 12s last year. Pinning his way through the backside was awesome. There isn’t anything this year that makes me think it has clicked off again for him or changed.

He did turn it up a notch for sure. I was just looking at those ratings at 184. There is a lot of parity 6-20. It will be a hell of fight for the bottom half of the podium.

Is there something messed up with the rankings on intermat? Or did last year just completely not matter as far as class is concerned?

It’s up to school/coach to classify wrestlers. Looks like ISU is assuming no one is taking a COVID year. Degen, Parker, Kraisser and Anderson are the only guys with no more eligibility. Coleman and Schuyler are the only starters that may take the extra year next year which i have heard they both plan.

I hope you haven't ordered plane tickets to Philly for this year. You must be a planner looking into 2025...
Oppps good catch .... I meant Detroit. Have a different meeting in Philly planned. Glad I didn't book flights to the wrong city. Lol
