Yeah, I skipped leadership/admin, listened to Cristobal, and checked out when the media questions start.

The interesting part to me about the Miami move - speculation on where the $ is coming from. I read that the hospital they own had $400M profit last year and between firing Diaz, getting Cristobal, and the AD, they're looking to spend $100M. That's a lot of plastic surgery! We are talking Miami/South Beach, right??? :jimlad:

The University of Miami Medical Department is similar to the University of Iowa's in that it is a renown Medical Department.

I love football. But, if the future is university medical centers taking their enormous profits and instead of lowering overpriced health care costs or funding cutting edge research or paying nurses better wages, they are going to instead dump it into coaches salaries and paying another coach not to work, then I might be out. That is some really jacked up interpretation of capitalism. And if that is the route we are going, then end the tax exempt charade now.
On a related note, yet another reason why football salaries are out of control and unsustainable:

*Edit: Apparently the account has since gone into lockdown due to folks harassing the poster. She's an Associate Prof at U of Miami, and she just pointed out that the university claimed financial hardship during the pandemic, thus not fulfilling their retirement account obligations, for 9 months, and then turned around and is buying out Diaz while spending big bucks on Cristobal. And as someone working in higher ed, please do not come at me with the "separate pots of money" argument; there's plenty of research out there on how athletics is a net loss at the majority of institutions, never mind that all of these teams are glorified minor league teams without the university/college they are attached to. And I say this as someone who finds great enjoyment in college sports!

Hello,

Oregon fan here. First-ever post. I have some connections to the state of Iowa and because of the bowl game last year where you all smoked us, I have followed Iowa St closer than previously. I was reading this thread some and thought I'd just quickly post something:

I am on Oregon insider boards and I just really came here to say there is literally no talk or smoke at all about Matt Campbell and Oregon on our end. If anyone is pushing him to Oregon, it's just because it's the premier job opening right now and he's a good coach. I have zero reasons to believe he is coming to Oregon or either side even wants that move. Not that he's not a great coach of course.

Just thought I'd share that because I saw a couple on here a little worried about our opening. I wouldn't be. Unless it's being played absurdly close to the vest, there is no talk at all about it. Not even on the hot board. Also, Chip Kelly is extremely unlikely to happen, seems mostly to be national writers making that up and Oregon fans wanting to go back to the "good ole days." I'd be shocked if he was the hire.

Have a good one!

Respected for sure, probably top 10-20 of private med schools/departments. Never did any work for them. I did a bunch of work for UCLA, they were a whole different level of school/health system, absolutely HUGE. Probably the top public med school. Healthcare and academia are very unique "industries", when the two cross it is fascinating!

I read another poster online who confirmed that Matt Campbell is NOT under consideration for the open Maryland coaching position. It is in basketball but there are some wild ones out there. :D

Just curious...who are the hot names in the Oregon search that are not lazy takes by national media members?

I think Oregon is a premier job and you all will likely land a really good coach. I'll also be cheering for you guys to completely destroy Lincoln Riley and USC.

Chip seems a little lost since he left the nest. Not sure a Chip 2.0 could recapture the magic or if his true ceiling has been exposed

I do respect our insiders, and these are paid sites, so don't want to share too much, but I will just say a lot of people want Dave Aranda or Lane Kiffin badly. No idea on if likely or possible for either.

Bryan Harsin and Justin Wilcox are two more names. I'm a pass on both really. Harsin is also not vaccinated apparently lol, but he would for this job. I think if Wilcox is the hire, some big-name we don't know about or Aranda/Kiffin said no or wasn't gettable. Wilcox would kill his mother for this job. No surprise, he's an Oregon boy, went to Oregon, and is very close with the Herbert family.

Chris Petersen is another name, but unclear if he wants to hop back in coaching.

Personally, I'm hoping Phil Knight says f it and goes 10/100 for Urban LOL. I am not sure the coach we hire is on the list from insiders.

Thoughts on BYU's coach? I saw he was a serious candidate.

Why would Urban be a better candidate than other names out there? His recent hiatus from CFB and his lack of success in the NFL doesn't exactly help his profile in recruiting. Seems that Kiffin is a bigger name right now and will run the type of offense that Oregon has thrived with.

IMo Urban Meyer is washed and if he takes another job it'll be for the payday and his effort level won't be that of a successful coach.

Aranda is definitely a hot name. I think it will be difficult to get him to leave Baylor right now, but maybe he would entertain the Oregon job. Even though he signed an extension, I think it would be a lot of fun if you guys got Lane Kiffin. The offense would definitely be back in Eugene! As a consolation prize, you could go after ISU's favorite OC of all time, Thomas Herman III aka Mensa.
