@Pope any insight on who ND is gonna hire?
Well, my son, I can only tell you it won't be Matt Campbell.

I summoned Father Jenkins (the Notre Dame president) to the Vatican and I told him in no uncertain terms that Matt Campbell is off the table. If Father Jenkins ever wants to make bishop or cardinal, he'll follow my instructions.

Peace be with you.

True.

Campbell only has to be the favorite of the AD to get the job though.

Maybe.

Wasn't TJ passed over even though he was JP's guy?

I can't believe donors don't have some sway.

I will never understand this logic, where it’s so burdensome to mouth the words “I’m not leaving ISU”. You’re paid millions of dollars a year, I’m pretty sure the money can heal those lip blisters you’d never get from stomping down rumors. We act like he’d have to spend weeks every year denying this. Just dumb.
Probably because he doesn’t know yet. And there will be other times he doesn’t know. It does no good for that to be said by Campbell.

He could lie, and say he has no interest. I think he should. If he leaves, it doesn’t matter to ISU he lied, he’s gone. If he lies, but doesn’t get the offer, all good as well.

As he said after the TCU game, he doesn't have a comment because there's nothing to comment on.

That’s head-in-the-sand coaches speak. There’s most definitely something to comment on. Anyone that recruits or follows recruiting knows that. I’m assuming he crafts a better response for recruits.

I prefer he just lie. At least do that for Iowa St.

Campbell may not be the favorite for the job. Notre Dame will not tell him he has been passed over until the winning candidate agrees to terms and signs a contract. If plan A doesn’t happen they may have to go to plan B. Hence cannot tell Matt he is out of the running until it is pretty much final.

ND wasn’t open then. ND is a whole different ball game. I don’t think they want him, at least not the first or even fourth choice, so I’m not sweating it.

And JP said last night there is no point in addressing every rumor that is out there
Resorting to fallacies is a bad look by JP. No one expects every rumor. We’re talking a far more tangible thing. The Seattle Times and national media etc.

A general rule is if it’s something recruits are asking and wondering, it’s worth being commented on. Navigating how to give the impression you’re not interested without incriminating yourself is P5 coaching 101. And when in doubt, just lie. This is something Hoiberg failed at

My gosh every time I jump on here it keeps getting worse. Ugh! Freeman is being courted by LSU and osu and will probably be one of the highest paid coordinators out there?
There is litterally only a handful of options left for coaches and there is still two blue blood programs that need a coach.
Hope all this freeman stuff is false info!

I am confident the coaches are relaying truthful information to any recruit who asks.

Campbell and JP have better more important things to do than comment on rumors. Plus it looks petty to refute or make contrary remarks to what another school says in their hiring of a coach.

For example USC says Riley was their #1 choice, it would be a bad look all around for Campbell or JP to say no they offered Campbell and he turned them down.

It's better to just not comment.
