My buddy went to ND, and I've only driven by South Bend, so I'll take his word for it when he said the town is a **** hole.

But then again, Campbell was at Toledo. He's about as conditioned to post-industrial **** holes as a guy could be.

He’s from NE Ohio lol. Not sure if anyone hs been to Canton-Youngstown-Akron lately but it hasn’t been great in well…forever. Imo Toledo is nicer.

Never been. Spent a day in Toledo this summer. Not nice, but then again, post-Vietnam my dad went on a roadie to visit army buddies that included Toledo, Gary and the Bronx. This was in '72 or '73. Not good then. In fact his Toledo buddy had been shot on two separate occasions in Toledo prior to Vietnam. Sustained no injuries in Vietnam.

So basically CMC has no problem coming here and tinkering around, which was great we all enjoyed it, but he wont be able to tinker at ND that same way and get away with it, we were used like a rag doll!

Tuesday morning is an odd time to be drinking.

What the hell are you talking about? He came here and gave ISU the best stretch in school history.

The worst part is, I just can't be mad at the guy if he leaves, I want to, I just can't. I even told my wife this morning when she asked me, "Do you think Campbell would go to Notre Dame?" I said, "If he was offered the job, he'd be a fool not to take it. It is one of the pinnacles of college football and it doesn't come around very often."

EDIT: I just want to add to the above. He would be a fool not to take it, if he knows his long term plan is to eventually move to a Blue Blood Program that fits his midwestern values. His goal could be to build ISU to a program that becomes a power house in it's own right. I don't know what his end game is. If his goal is to coach where he really feels at home, has a little less pressure from outside sources, but loves the challenge of making a 5* culture a 5* program, then he is not a fool for not taking it. I could respect that decision.

What if we just had a steady stream of former players hired at around 60-70k a year, we triple our staff, hire a CEO at 250k to manage the operation, systemtize recruiting and everything else. That was my hope is CMC walks in, takes a pay cut and gets his assistants more money if they want it and hire a bunch more staffers like Kyle K and Trevor Ryan.

He said on this week's podcast that he doesn't know what's happening so he's trying not to put much out either way.

Smart move on his part.

Not smart to speculate on his non-posting since he's provided a rationale.
So he's admitting that he's ignorant?

Swarbrick not naming Freeman at the conference this morning makes me think they are running at Fickel and/or Campbell first, and Freeman isn't going to be the guy. But they want to hang on to him a while so they have a coaching staff in place when CFP is decided.

HOPEFULLY it also means Fickel is the guy but they want to let him hang on a while until CFP is decided too.

I think if CMC is the guy, it will be announced in the next day or 2. If it is Fickel, it will drag out until monday at least.

This is all about as scientific and accurate as astrology...

Other than being completely against the rules and the worst idea I've ever heard, I think it's got merit...

His age alone should cause pause...but it shouldn't be a factor to eliminate him! I get taking time...there are a lot of good coaches that would do well at ND...they need to be conscious of recruiting and the impact of waiting to make a hire but I see zero concerns from ND's perspective in the fact that they didn't name anyone today.

I think there are rumors of Day at OSU going to the NFL and if those are true I don't think Fickel is going to jump at the ND offer, though if the price is right...

Freeman would be an odd choice given who else is in the market but if they believe he's going to be a great head coach, he won't be sticking around to coach with whomever they hire.

I felt like it was pretty clear that they were going to interview everyone today and make a decision later.
If they want Freeman they better do it fast, however, considering the LSU DC offer

There are no terrible mustaches, only people that don’t understand facial hair.
This goes beyond not understanding facial hair.

It sure felt to me like Freeman has told him he doesn't want the interim tag, either be hired as the HC or not. I think we'll know if Freeman is the pick or not in the next few days.

"It's about the right candidate," Swarbrick said. "When we find when we find the person we think is the right one to lead this program and have the right conversations with him, that's all the matters. If that happens tomorrow, or weeks from now, that's fine."

The optimist in me reads this quote and thinks in his mind Freeman is tomorrow and Fickell is weeks. Doesn't mean it will be either of them ultimately, but feels like they are on his mind.
