Official SDSU Meltdown Thread

Early this year after I believe the UC Davis game, I made a comment to a kid that this was going to be a long year. He basically bit**ed me out, saying I'm not a true ISU fan and I should just hand in my season tickets because if I knew anything, I would know that ISU has always struggled in Basketball. He went on to tell me that we are a young team and to give Mcdermott a couple more years because hes turning this program around. Long story short, that same person calling me out about not being a true ISU fan, is now calling for Mcdermotts job. God I love karma

probably not karma so much as irony.

However, we still have athletes who play for this school without getting any compensation, just for the love of the game.

This may have been covered (I haven't read all 19 pages) but while there are a couple of players who are not on scholarship, the rest are. Somebody pays for their tuition...

Agreed. Absolutely no excuse ever to lose to SDSU. But as cyclone fans we will try and try.

there are cyclone fans that would find excuses other than we are terrible and poorly coached even if we lost to Boone High School. (I'd use Ames High but with HB they would probably be favored)

Yeah, good point. Drake had a really crappy team last year, didn't they? :jimlad:
Please stop making excuses for our program and explain how our lack of progression on the court the past 2+ years is acceptable. Stop misdirecting from what is going wrong with our program by making silly statements about how other programs better shape. Care to explain why better than 95% of BCS programs are in better shape than us? Make any argument you want, but the facts are that the CEO of every company is responsible no matter what. If its lack of player effort, its the CEO's fault. If its lack of talent, its the CEO's fault. If I see a change in the way we play, I will be happy beyond belief, but I just don't see it right now.

And I'll agree. My point above still stands. Right now we have one player who has been in the program for more than a year and a half. One.

If you want to compare to Drake, how many seniors do they have?

So what would be the excuse against Iowa? In major college basketball freshman need to come in ready to play from day one. We have had plenty of freshman come in that are ready both physically and mentally for the challenge, thats why they get recruited to a school like Iowa State. Mid-Majors are the ones that wait for talent to develop and blossom as juniors and seniors and we aren't a mid major...

If Aclone wants to point out that we have only 1 player that has been here over a year and a half he is basically conceding the point. Who else are you going to blame for high turnover than the head coach. I understand that coaches get hired with a short recruiting period and that the new system might scare off a few of the old coaches players but teams do this ALL the time and recover. We don't. Difference between them and us...we have McDermott.

We look so much worse than last year in, just in terms of effort, that I wonder if GMac has been traumatized by his best player quitting the team last spring. Is he afraid to demand certain levels of performance? Tonight, I didn't see him angry or dressing down anyone...

I think that is a large part of it. That and we honestly just don't have the athletes.

I don't want to compare to Drake except to point out that so many people for so long have simply said 'Patience'. So, we write off year after year after year. Then after a decade is gone, we bemoan the fact that we have no winning tradition. Say what any of us will about Auburn or the rest of the SEC in FB, losing is simply unacceptable down there. Losing is not unacceptable at ISU. It is familiar and comfortable. We have our nice guy coach from Iowa and that is enough. It isn't and it shouldn't be. If that is all this is about, we should forget about being in the conference that we are in.

This season is shot. ISU will be lucky to win 4-5 conference games this season. That means yet another season of no postseason play. Again I ask, WHEN is ok to expect a coach to produce wins in either program?

Thats another excuse I have also heard, is it doesnt help us losing are best player to transfer.. I have also heard that even if we don't get Harrison Barnes it doesnt matter, one player can't turn around a team. So many excuses....

I just don't know where we go to fix this. You can say "new coach" all you want or point out some hot shot coach out there but fact is we won't get him to come here. So what's the fix? I'm listening.

I honestly can not remember him dressing down anyone in his three years here. I think that is part of the problem.

Jeez, you're optimistic. I'd say we will be lucky to win 1 conference game.

Another embarrassing loss, another night of fading slowly into complete apathy toward a program that I used to live for. I used to wake up in the morning excited that ISU MBB played that night and not just our glory years. I'm just very sad.

I'll man up and say I have absolutely no idea. This isn't working. I haven't called for his job. I still believe as I did three years ago, that he was the wrong hire. As to what to do from here??? You tell me. Another year of this and it is time to take a chance on someone else.

I am about one more bad loss from putting the rest of my season tickets in an envelope and mailing them to Pollard. I am just sick about the state of our basketball program right now.
