Craig looks like he is not interested in the game.

It's not all Craig's fault. Imagine how effective he would be across from say a Jared Homan type player. He needs some support in the post badly. He can't carry the load night in and night out by himself.

i don't know why we are all worried about losing potential recruits, once they get here they all leave anyway. why don't we just skip a step?

Came out flat??? Many games this year the guys look like they are at a funeral. What is this???
 One hand passes across the lane. bouncing the ball in the paint instead of going straight up with it. No player defending the basket on a press, Craig flashing so many times and not getting the ball that the announcers time after time have to question why we don't throw the ball to Craig. and on and on.

Our problem isn't flat. Our problem is basketball.

not every game it doesn't.

I've never seen a GMac team play with the fire of either a Floyd or Eustachy team. Sure, both of those coaches had off nights but good god they also beat some damn good teams and rarely gave up home court advantage. All I'm asking for is some fire, some passion, perhaps an uspet, protect home court against the Summit League! When those expectations are too high you know your program is in deep ****.

Yes. Rebuilding a basketball team of 11 players (with only maybe 9 consistently seeing playing time) is a lot different than rebuilding a football team of 80 or so players.

Some of our best teams really only went about 7 deep, so it doesn't even take that many guys...

Yeah, good point. Drake had a really crappy team last year, didn't they? :jimlad:

They lost just as many starters as we did, including a league MVP:wink:

Angie, I respect the battle you are putting up defending the players but let me tell you this. As a former athlete people should be able bash the performance, skills, and perceived lack of effort all they want IMO. As long as they don't resort to character blows it should be on the table. Playing at this level is a choice that comes with consequences, one of those is playing in front of a judgmental crowd... So as long as the attacks aren't personal in nature, i see no problem...

Assuming the team doesn't turn things around in conference play (I don't see that happening) then GMac has to go. We really need to bring in a solid coach that can recruit and hopefully keep HB in Ames. Maybe we should just let HB hire the next coach. I think he can do for ISU basketball under a new coach what Barry Stevens did for ISU under Johnny Orr.

Right on. He gets no help at all. His teammates stand around by the 3-pt. line and watch. No one esle moves, either to the basket for rebounds or to another spot on the court for a dish back from Brackins. NO ONE MOVES! This offense is pathetic.

And it hasn't every game.

I disagree. Our team ALWAYS looks like it just showed up, no fire, and it always looks like they are out hustled and don't want it as much. That is why the fans are in apathy mode. When Johnny or Larry or Tim's teams had off nights it usually wasn't lack of hustle and effort. These teams are just painful to watch.

How was Iowa last year? Oh yeah, I forgot, did their leading scorer play against ISU?
Hello? You're the one that was making the point about "first year coaches". Don't switch arguments, and pretend it's the same.

And in case you didn't notice, Drake embarassed Iowa.

:smile:Love my team and school and coaches and players. Don't get me wrong. But as I have posted before there are simple things that are wrong here and this is what makes it so disturbing.

worse yet, we concede most of our shots at offensive rebounds as 4 of our guys never enter the arc so rebounding is 4 on 1 if not 5 on 1, and that is if our post hasn't started down the court at the shot to try to give some presence inside on defense.

i agree. i live, love, and will die a Cyclone. it looks simple to me to, but i'm not the Coach. it looks obvious watching, but why doesnt this team see it?

My point is it doesn't take 57 years to field a good basketball team. Drake lost their PG and hired a new coach. For people who crave STABILITY, those would be ready made excuses for losing. Instead Drake comes to our building and beats us for the third consecutive year. Iowa played without their leading scorer and with a second year coach and still they DOMINATED ISU by 16.

Look, you're a great fan and maybe you have a stronger stomach for this than I do. To my way of thinking it is a sorry shame to see a once-proud program making excuses for itself in losing to SDSU.

Going off of Pomeroy (which I like), this was probably the worst home loss since 2002 San Jose State.

That is it - in a nutshell. No one on the Cyclones really "puts out." Not Lucca, not Craig, not anyone. I sit in the seventh row, and it is evident every game. It was very evident tonight. That tells me the coach is not demanding it.

Early this year after I believe the UC Davis game, I made a comment to a kid that this was going to be a long year. He basically bit**ed me out, saying I'm not a true ISU fan and I should just hand in my season tickets because if I knew anything, I would know that ISU has always struggled in Basketball. He went on to tell me that we are a young team and to give Mcdermott a couple more years because hes turning this program around. Long story short, that same person calling me out about not being a true ISU fan, is now calling for Mcdermotts job. God I love karma

And I'll agree. My point above still stands. Right now we have one player who has been in the program for more than a year and a half. One.

If you want to compare to Drake, how many seniors do they have?
