Phone just updated to Android 12. For some idiotic reason they decided your clock display was of some sort of vital importance so they made it like this on your lock screen and you are unable to change it. I absolutely hate the way it looks.

If you have a Samsung, you can try Good Lock in the Galaxy Store. It integrates several other apps so once you download that you would want to enable the LockStar app within it. I agree, that is quite obnoxious.

Saw them once or twice in Pullman...but you had to drive waaaaaay out into the wheatfields to get away from ambient light.

This reminds me of us driving west of Ames and then south on a gravel road last December to see the "Nativity Star." Took some photos out there, but the best one was after we were back home and it was high enough to see in town. Reminded me of a "home for the holidays" scene with all the front lights on in neighbor houses.
