Old man alert: Lower back tightened yesterday morning while standing still.
Much more functional today. Takes less time to stand up.

Tonight's class will be interesting. I will not be moving around to point at stuff on a map tonight.
It was a Tuesday in the spring when I moved my arm (after vaccination) and told students that today might be their day to see an old man cry. Looks like it's Tuesday for the fall students, too.

Not yet scheduled for any Tuesdays in the spring, so maybe there won't be tears.
Well, no. I'll find a way.

Need a pointer to use while seated.

Without making this caveish. We are REALLY struggling on how to feel...long story semi short. My cousins family (husband, wife and I think 4....maybe 5 kids all under the age of 13) had COVID. Husband got it and had to be hospitalized, seemed to be improving but took a turn and had to be airlifted from Mary Greely to the U two weeks ago. He had been slowly improving some but still sedated and intubated. This weekend he took a he huge turn for the worse to a point that there is little to no chance he survives. They are all unvaccinated of course and very conservative Christian. We obviously feel for them but on the other hand you played with fire and lost.

I feel bad for the kids, for sure.

Ouch. That's a hard one. Nobody (should) ever want to see someone get hurt, but at some point you run out of empathy. Having kids in that situation makes is a lot harder to be cold.

That's brutal and unimaginable.

Hurt for the children.
Be angry at the parents (but in the privacy of your home).
Try to avoid "I told you so"...it won't change a thing.
If you are close (doesn't sound like it) maybe try to find a way to reach out to encourage them to at least get the eligible kids vaccinated (remind them of the vaccinations their children have already be required to obtain prior to enrolling in and attending school).

I have no empathy left for vaccine resistors who contract the disease. I'm tired of the selfishness. And I completely understand your dilemma.

The mom homeschools so I honestly have no idea how well vaccinated they may be. Her sister posted on FB that she doesn't want to hear about any of the vaccine garbage. Their brother and his wife (a nurse turned stay at home mom I believe) are apparently considering getting it, they also have 3-4 kids under the age of 8. They keep posting about asking for prayers and healing etc etc etc. which especially with MrsWx's background now she just says "it's not happening, the script has been written and the damage has been done."

I feel your confusion. I have had people who have been total asshats on Mrs. Velo's social media about vaccination and politics. On the one hand I find myself having the fleeting thought of "I hope they come down with it." Then I quickly catch myself and think, "No, you really don't." It is fraught with torn thoughts and emotions.

I generally don't hope people get it, though i feel less sorry for those that lose that lottery. Its the ones that are more vocal about it, that have convinced others not to get it beyond themselves, theyre the ones that I at least have a "well that serves them right" feeling.

Always feel bad for those it effects though, like the kids in this instance.

Being human, truly human, is fraught with peril and our true selves are what save us. I'm not being poetic or trying to use fancy language here, just thinking through my keyboard what I probably couldn't say out loud.

Wx sorry for the kids and the widow (is she hot? asking for a friend) Too bad she hasn't learned. The vax might not stop it a 100% but it sure as hell gives a person much better odds.

In CR for a couple of days any recs for supper CR peeps. Casual dining no high end stuff.

Zio Johnos in Marion (still there?) or Zeppelin's in NE CR.

I just realized it's been a really long time since I've eaten in Cedar Rapids/Marion.

Like 10 years.
