Facebook Down

There was literally a thread on here about food people make.

Also there is also a very active thread on “what are you drinking “…

This is a lot closer than many think or will admit.
Check out any of the "random thoughts" threads on here. They are exactly that. No biggie, but yea, if this isn't social media I don't know what is.

It is definitely social media.

When I get tagged in locations or people can publicly see where I am and what I'm doing it will be time to be done with CF.

I got rid of Facebook and Twitter almost 2 years ago and haven't missed them. Instagram was my last haven to look at cars and memes but this feels like a good time to be done all together.

To be fair, I'm not bagging on CF. What you describe is already happening if you carry your phone in your pocket. Nothing to do with CF in my opinion.

I’d tell you you’re incorrect. Not even close to the same thing…

I’ll grant you there are some similarities, but the anonymity and the fact that people aren’t posting mundane pics of their meals takes it way out of the realm of Facebook. However, the hatefulness is not lost on these message boards- so maybe you’re onto something.

Social media are interactive technologies that allow the creation or sharing/exchange of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. [...] there are some common features:

  • Social media are interactive Web 2.0 Internet-based applications.
  • User-generated content—such as text posts or comments, digital photos or videos, and data generated through all online interactions—is the lifeblood of social media.
  • Users create service-specific profiles for the website or app that are designed and maintained by the social-media organization.
  • Social media helps the development of online social networks by connecting a user's profile with those of other individuals or groups.

Check check check check check. CF checks all those boxes. In fact every forum does. In fact there are 13 types of social media and one of them is literally forums.

  • blogs
  • collaborative project management
  • enterprise social networking
  • business networks
  • forums
  • microblogs
  • photo sharing
  • products/services review
  • social bookmarking
  • social gaming
  • social networks
  • video sharing
  • virtual worlds

My location is being posted on social media that I don't have? On CF?

Point being that one of the myriad of reasons I cut FB was because I got tired of getting tagged etc. Fun at first (like, 2008), then not so much.

Yes, you could remove the tags, but I couldn't prevent it, and the only way to really avoid it was to un-friend people, and that became a whole other fiasco by people that equate FB to reality**.

**Quite possibly very unusual as it was a psycho in the group that lives this way and must have sent me 15 friend requests/week after I cut them.

This is giving me PTSD from when my Facebook account was still active.

This. CF is absolutely social media. No two ways about it.

Again- lots of similarities. However, the differences, such as anonymity, a shared passion for Cyclones, and the fact I’m not bombarded with the lives of ‘friends’ on these boards- I get to pick my topics by entering the convos that I choose to enter…that’s what makes these forums different than FB and it’s what makes it palatable for users like me who just want to shoot the breeze, talk sports, and engage in good debates without fear of being canceled. It’s different- otherwise I wouldn’t be on here either.

Yes CF is not a social network like you are describing, but it is social media.
