I'm quite sure that the alliance conferences (and Big 12, of course) would rather see a Big 12 autobid than see the SEC get a 3rd or 4th team in it.
they aren’t going to hurt themselves by not letting a team from their conference in either.
To expand they need the votes. To get the votes, they'll likely need Gee, so yes.

That is the thing, very few of the 8 have much room to fall. Iowa St's recent success wasn't built on recruiting inflated from being with OuT. It wasn't even built with the perception Iowa St was good.
The number of high school kids coming out each year is not changing, and where Iowa St falls in line for those kids will not be worse than where they were when building the 2017,2018, 2019 and so on rosters.
Any slight loss in perception of being the second best conference to now the third to fifth best, is offset by now being viewed a good program, which will only grow with better playoff access, which it will have.

Looking at the vid I actually have respect for Gundy's stance on that issue. Not reading the article, I can imagine the paper attacked one of his players. He stood up for that player.
All this with only recent success.
What this confirms, particularly with a little longer period of success, is that ISU in the BIG against other large state schools or SEC has a similar valuation as other non-bluuebloods, and likely higher than most realize. The conference brand helps make the program value, as much as the individual program brand makes the conference brand. Southern Miss could quickly pull Miss St numbers if switching conferences.
Of course, networks are trying to segregate. They want to be able to increase the matchup of the teams that pull, so 4 million is the new low mark, and more of the matchups are getting those Ohio St-Oregon numbers.
Feels like posturing for the negotiations. "We might approve 12 teams, but only if we make sure that ESPN doesn't jam 5 SEC teams in there and take all the gd money."
My guess is they will want a 2 team per conference limit, or only 3 teams from a conference if they are all in the top 5, or can't take a 3rd team from at the expense of a 2nd P5 or G5 team that is ranked in the top 15, or something like that. Or they will revenue share the money more - instead of shares per team, it will be 50% equal to all and 50% shares per team.
I'll say it until I die....if you don't win your goddam conference in college football then you can't be national champion.
Also, the old NFL sudden death rules are the best OT and the rule change is garbage....and college OT is an abomination
And I think that their statements about protecting college football will lead to an inclusion of the Big 12 champion, as I think they understand that it's a regional sport that ignites a national passion.
You would think so. And who is on the (maybe I should say 'was on' now) new playoff committee anyway? Wasn't Pollard?
Until further notice talk of an expanded college football playoff is on Hold.

And to think that if OuT had kept their yaps shut for just 2-3 months more that the 12 team CFP would have been signed and the SEC (and ESPN) could look forward to 3-5 teams making the CFP EVERY YEAR! Now...it may take several years to get any sort of expanded CFP approved and it will certainly come with specific checks and balances against the SEC. That little news article that broke the OuT gambit to the SEC cost the SEC (and ESPN) billions of $'s. Yes...billions.
If there were 4 leagues and each conference could have a playoff of 4-6 teams that wouldn't be so bad but it probably doesn't happen with CFB. Especially if we could do away with the abomination that is post season exhibition games known as bowl games.
On the other hand you are using a standard that no other sport uses, including the NFL. There isn't a relevant sport where teams that finish 2nd in a league don't have access to the playoffs and the sports championship.
What's not needed with an expanded playoff of 12 or more are CCG's. Just go to 16 or 24 and eliminate those games but the greed of the SEC & B1G will always fight that. Yes, lets have one more meaningless game so we can throw up the strawman argument expanded playoffs are too many games for these kids.
Its one of hte reasons the NFL is a much better product. You don't have engineered outcomes, politicking, etc. Instead you have a true playoff where the rules are set before the season and everyone plays their way in and there are not different sets of rules for different teams.
The SEC will want atleast 3 teams in the mix. I don’t see a world where they only are allowed two.
What’s more, whoever is on that “committee” choosing the teams will be absolutely huge.
The ability to tell a story while weaving in a healthy amount of cursing is a family tradition.
