Serious question for my level headed Iowa peeps of RTT. :(

Daughter of old friend just texted me to let me know her dad had died. Funeral/visitation is in small town Iowa on Saturday morning. This was a good architect buddy of mine going back to the late 1970's although I hadn't seen him much after things sort of went to hell for him and he moved back to Iowa. 10 years my senior, neighbor, friend, remodeling mentor. Having a bit of a struggle about attending the funeral. Without the covid factor it would be an automatic 100% attend, known his girls since they were just babies and all. But, really wrestling with the group thingie. What's you peeps take on rural Iowa Delta spread? Would need an overnight evening before, probably in Clear Lake.

I honestly haven’t seen or heard of anyone getting it in my area of NC Iowa. All visitations I’ve been to lately have required masks. I know very few people over 60 that aren’t vaxxed also.

Churches I know have pretty solid disinfecting routines also. Not as great as clinics, but better than grocery stores, hardware stores, and such. Wear a mask and use disinfectant before and after and I would think you would be very low risk.

Other option would be to drop off something at the spouse/child’s house before/after and have a brief chat with them.

I have a bicycling name now "Biker Biker". Was passing a group of maybe 15 kids (grade school, maybe JH, by the look) on a chaperoned ride today. I did my "On your left" to let them know I was going to pass them and tail rider chaperone guys was "Biker, Biker!" and than the kids we're all "Biker, Biker!', "Biker, Biker!" Weird kids, "What's' your name?" "My name is Aaron!", etc. Ah, kid, my name is Biker Biker!
I assume you mean A-a-ron.

Iowa is increasing, I've seen a fair amount of people remasking again (It still is a REALLY low % of people who are masked). I never ask why I just figure it is a personal choice issue. Since you've been vaxxed I wouldn't be too concerned. I did hotels all the way thru the Covid for work, so I'm not a good judge of that other than they are really a lot fuller than this time last yr, but after you check in you don't interact with anyone any way. I would say go and pay your respects otherwise type up a nice thing on the funeral home site and send a card.

I'm a pretty firm believer that weddings are optional but funerals are mandatory if possible....I'd maybe check with them to see where things are for protocols etc. and let the know you're checking out of concern.

If it sounds less than what works, maybe set up to pay them a visit another time.

Not sure Iowa is being quite honest about reporting. Before you make your final decision, have a look at this site from the Mayo Clinic Iowa Coronavirus Map: Tracking the Trends - Mayo Clinic and/or the New York Times Iowa Coronavirus Map and Case Count - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

I wouldn't say attendance at funerals is a "must". I missed my uncle's funeral and brother's 50th wedding anniversary because I wasn't fully vaccinated on those dates, and I'm not sorry that I stayed home.

You could take some of the money you would save if you stayed home and send a very nice memorial or arrangement instead.

If you do decide to go, mask up (yes, even if you're vaccinated). Wear a black one.

One of the UPS drivers I load for gave me a heads-up on the carnage coming at me starting Monday as students start moving into the dorms.
I have a couple solutions I'll propose tomorrow morning. They'll sound reasonable to my part-time sups, but the full timers will likely respond in the traditional UPS manner of "or he could try harder."
Still, some good ideas ready to happen.

Good references, thanks. Damn, Buena Vista County (my country of interest), sporting the deep purple on cases per capita, way higher than my big ass metro county. Did a little WTF and than saw dat Tyson Foods plant so makes sense. Didn't realize they had the honor of being the fastest growing covid hotspot in the nation earlier this summer.

Agree funerals are not a must. Throw in the distance and I am leaning toward reluctantly taking a pass. :(

I haven't applied for a job in a long time. Do they now expect you to send a monologue about why you are a good candidate?
It's like an interview prescreener, so they like my resume but not enough to speak with a real person yet. Two prompts are "introduce yourself and why you want to work for xxxxxxx" and explain how your education and work.background fits the role.

I'd have to just practice some sort of canned deal and do that.
