12/17 Official Coaching Search Thread

What makes you think Patterson, Whittingham, or Peterson would come here? Lets be logical. That will not happen. Each one of those coaches have a better chance at BCS bowls in their respective conferences then here. That's just a fact.

Maybe they want to prove they can win in a BCS Conference? Plus, the simple fact in today's society is money talks...

Probably because I know a little something about the guy. I don't make statements like "look at his O-line" without having a clue what I'm talking about. Have you been following the rams this year? Did you follow them this year? Do you know anything about their line? Do you realize that he replaced a fired coach this year? Do you realize that a couple of weeks ago they were playing a RB that was bagging groceries 5 days before he started on Sunday?

I look at what he did with ISU's offense while he was here and I think it's impressive. I guess you don't and that's fine. Like I said, I don't know if he's the right person for the job but slamming an ISU alum that has done a lot of positive things for the college is wrong IMO. Yes, I think he's a viable OPTION.

For every coach you list I can give you something that looks like a negative on the surface but unless you know the whole siuation you(or I) really don't have a clue.

Never took shots at him....but it doesn't matter if he is an alum or not....did great things for ISU or not.

We need the best coach we can get...and he is not it.

Who is your pick of an actual coach we can get? Was Chizik the best coach we could get at the time? Just asking.

Certainly not the best coach out there. If Pollard were to hire him, however, I'd be inclined to believe that he was the best coach we could get. I really don't think Pollard is going to settle for less than the best he can get.

I agree with you that Loney is not high on my list. But I certainly don't agree with you that it would automatically be a disaster if we hired him. I'd be willing to give the guy a chance at least.

gary patterson, David Baliff, Whittingham, Todd Graham....and there are others.

Look...Loney is a terrific alumn...but not what ISU needs...right now.

At the time? everyone including the media he was the best out there. So you are saying if we have one bad experience ordering prime rib...we should stick to ordering a safe tasty hot dog?

The one big thing that a lot of people are not mentioning is coordinators. I think it's almost as important that the HC can bring in strong coordinators. We've seen in the past that if the HC has always been towards defense and doesn't have good OC's than they will fail. I hope whoever they bring in has a strong list of coordinators that would be willing to come to ISU.

Fair enough.

Just throwing this name out there, not sure what people would think.....Gary Crowton, OC LSU

-Not a young up and comer but def has experience.

-Had two head coaching stints at La Tech and BYU (conference coach of the year his first year 10-2 record)

-Been the OC for LSU, Oregon, and before that the Chicago Bears where his offenses always put up points

-Would instantly upgrade our offense

-Not sure what happened at the end of his BYU stint. He was there for 4 yrs, dont know if he quit or was fired

Prob not what were looking for but I thought it was an interesting name

here is his bio....Gary Crowton Bio - LSUsports.net—The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics

Crowton has a great offensive mind. Offense, even with the lack of a QB that could handle the entire playbook, was not LSU's problem this year.

My sense is that he may not be interested in any other jobs in light of the fact that Miles' seat will be pretty darned hot next year unless he can win the SEC West. He may stay thinking that he would have a decent shot to move up to the HC slot if Miles gets the boot. One other thing, LSU is set to sign two of the top 5 or 10 players in the country this recruiting period...both on the offensive side...Russell Shephard (QB) and Rueben Randle (WR).

Crowton has a son that is a freshman (not an athletic prospect) that goes to the same school as my son does but I have never personally met him.

Things are WAY TOO QUIET on the coach search front today. There has to be some nuggets out there that people can share, doesn't there?

He may think that, but I doubt LSU fans would be satisfied with promoting someone on the staff if their firing Miles because the team is not performing. I'm guessing LSU would need to go outside and get a huge name to please the fans - but who knows.

If a coach is on the hotseat, I'd think that would give assistants a reason to be looking, instead of wanting to hang around.

Gary Patterson. I think we can get him...I think he is looking for a new challenge...I think we will offer him around 2 million plus incentives to get it done. Pollard will figure that the rise in excitement and ticket sales will more than cover the higher salary.

At the time, other than Gary Patterson, I think he was hands down the best option ISU had. I was shocked that we landed him, but everyone knows Pollard could sell a book to a blind man. Now in hindsight, maybe it was not the best hire?

One thing that is different than two years ago is that there is not another BCS job opening currently, and there are a lot of good mid major head coaches out there who are coming off 0, 1 and 2 loss seasons. We need to be looking at these coaches, i.e. Patterson, Whittingham, Graham, Peterson, etc. There should be no reason we don’t look at these guys...

I would like to see him as well but I haven't heard one good reason why he would want to come to ISU. Minnesota offered him 2 million reasons and he said no.

So Whittingham's going to leave his BCS Sugar Bowl team to come coach 2-10 Iowa State? That would just be plain stupid on his part. His next move will be to a big time program. Auburn should have looked at him.
