Woodstock 99

Said it earlier but that aggressive music was 'the thing' at the time as well.

Bad mix for a concert series known for the theme of 'peace and love' and skinny dipping.

If it were done today I'd bet it would be more like Glastonbury or something....plenty of great, popular live acts mixed with older classics.
Remember watching mosh pits while working or checking out bands to work. Generally the front security would be “professional” security. If you ended up in the security zone, you most likely were leaving it unconscious and tossed outside.

Just finished it and wasn't expecting how increasingly depressed and numb I felt throughout. What a ******* **** show. **** all the douchebag punk rapists and **** John Scher. Defensive throughout the entire doc and tried to act like he wasn't but he was clearly blaming chicks for getting assaulted because they were nude. Also used the low number of reported assaults as a way of downplaying the severity of what was obviously happening a lot. What a piece of ****.

yeah he was a class A asshat no question. That scene about the girls being topless I wanted to throw my tv out the window.

THis is the one that is terrifying to me. People actually died at this one. Crowds were estimated between 1 and 1.6 million Russians. Although I can't imagine being Metallica and being able to play for this.

That was right before the fall of the Soviet Union. You can see the soldiers who were supposed to be providing security joining the crowd throughout the show. I'm sure it was a massive cultural experience for everyone there. I think I saw an interview one time where Hetfield said the Soviet Army threatened to stop the show like 3 times.

It was pretty much right before the fall of Metallica also. James cut his hair, Jason split and Lars became the world's biggest *****.

Woodstock 99 took place when I was a junior at Iowa State and I remember the coverage of the riots and how bad it was. But the new documentary on HBO Max called Woodstock 99…holy sh!t what a disaster and ****** up event full of angry white males in their late teens and early 20s.

Give me something to break!
