I believe this is him announcing in the video. Starting lineups starting at the 7:20 mark.
I am one of the "old folks," and I have to say that I agree with you. This should really rile up the old folks:
John does just as good of a job as anything I've heard Pete call. His banner will be right next to Pete's when the time comes in Hilton.
But…but…isn’t John a Drake grad?! How could he possibly be loyal to ISU?This should really rile up the old folks:

He should spare us the Pete Taylor comparisons for now. Pete was an established broadcaster when he started calling Cyclone games, not the voice of the Urbandale Jayhawks.

You are old enough to recall the guy before Gary. They eventually retired him to doing PA in the press tower only years later. While I did not dislike his work, it was as though he was reading the lunch menu to us at times with his in-game announcements. Is he still living?Gary did both football and men's basketball for many years before switching to just hoops in ~2001.

When Joe and I grew up it would have been #319Pride.#563Pride
It was a bad comparison, but I guess the guy is smart enough to know that there are probably a group of Cyclone fans that already don't like him because he went to a school that an even bigger group of Cyclone fans hate.
