People have been talking a lot about Vegas but this game has the potential to be the mack daddy road trip of all time. If chalk prevails it will be two undefeated top 5 teams, ESPN Gameday, the whole works. I know I’m supposed to expect the groin shot along the way but I refuse to this year.

So a couple weeks ago I bought 3 tix in 11th row upper deck near midfield on the visitor side. $106 plus ridiculous fees (Seat Geek), but well worth it. Booked a 3 bedroom townhouse about a mile east of the stadium just south of Lindsey St for a great price thru airbnb. Has a private backyard so could throw a fun party Friday night and/or pre or postgame on Saturday.

Would love to see a bunch of Clone fans make the trip. Hit the secondary ticket market and lodging early because this game only goes up in value this fall. If this thread resurfaces in November feel free to DM me about joining our Clone fest in Norman. Going with a couple of diehards who are really fun dudes.

We bought tickets from the ISU allotment and found an Air BnB as well. There was a pretty sweet one with a firepit listed but unfortunately it had Boomer Sooner decor. Sorry, thats a dealbreaker. Lol. My dilemma was if I was already going to Vegas and would definitely love Dallas. And probably the bowl game too. Could i really add another trip? And then as you mentioned, how can you not imagine how amazing this game would be and miss it? Nope. We are going.

I pray for you and others that refuse to expect the nut shot. That is going to be one miserable Saturday when it inevitably arrives. But I am more of a "believe it when I see it" thinker.

With that being said I am for sure going. Would love a solid ISU pregame / party. Will keep it in mind.

I figure even if we have lost to Texas and Iowa by then. This would be our big chance to save the season. If we finish the year with 2 losses, but with a win at Oklahoma and then a Big12 championship game repeat win in Dallas, that would put us right back in the mix. There is no scenario where this isn’t the biggest game of the regular season. Its a cant miss game. See you there!

By odd coincidence, I hope you get over your pathological fear of the “nut shot”.

This is Matt Campbell’s team.

I have PTSD from the 2002 game which I was there for. That the nut shot of all nut shots. Just repeated blows like Apollo Creed on the speed bag.

Ive been in Norman all week for work, the amount of crap I’ve taken from all these sooner fans has been tremendous. It’s almost like (dare I say it) “rivalry” trash talk. Now before this gets quoted on Hawkeye Nation, no, I don’t think they actually see us as rivals but prior to this my experience with Sooner fans has been pleasant to the point of “we obviously see you as no threat, thanks for letting us slaughter you annually.” I love it and this trip just made me want to attend that game even more.

At least that one was over as soon as the Iowa State player (I think Anthony Forrest) whiffed on kicking the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety and Oklahoma fell on the ball for a touchdown after a Cyclone three and out and bad snap. So many things went wrong that day.

Was there in 2017. Tailgating and pregame atmosphere was blah, but it was an early kick and supposed to be a blowout. They were not into the game at all and in complete disbelief when we came back. Extremely cordial after the game. Got a lot of high fives and free shots in our Cyclone gear. It might be a little different this season now that we've given them a couple recent losses.

Norman is a mediocre college town, but the stadium is cool. It should be a fun day if a lot is still on the line.

I was fully expecting a groin kick when I drove down to Norman for the 2017 game, especially when it was announced just beforehand that we'd be starting our 3rd team QB. I ended up witnessing what I still believe is the greatest win in Cyclone football history and Iowa State's arrival as one of the top programs in the country.

I made the same trip in 2019 and was a 2-point conversion away from experiencing that same feeling all over again (never mind that the refs botched the interference call that play). Haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm guessing I'll make the journey again this fall.

That team had one of, if not the most difficult road schedule imaginable. Here were the final AP rankings for games played outside JTS (shown in order of occurrence)

#21 Florida State (played at KC)
#8 Iowa
#5 Oklahoma
#6 Texas
#7 Kansas State
#20 Colorado
#15 Boise State (bowl game, played at Boise State)

Oklahoma, Texas, KSU, and Colorado were played in a 5 week stretch. The team was mentally fatigued - that was a grind of all grinds.

That '02 season was quite the ride.

Parents went to the FSU game at Arrowhead, remember watching it on TV.
Attended the Tech 'Run' game when we were flying high.
Back down to earth against OU and UT
K-State game sucked watching on TV
Family went to the game in Boulder. Which was a lot of fun, but the actual game was a letdown.
UConn game at home was the ultimate WTF game

That team deserved more than getting an away game at BSU for their bowl. It's a shame they had that skid to end the season.

I think I remember hearing that had we taken care of business against UConn we likely would've gone to the Tangerine Bowl?

There's an ISU Football before the 2017 OU game, and the current ISU Football after. Far and away, not only the biggest win, but the most consequential win in school history.

And that game started out like so many ISU-OU games. Down 14-0 very quickly. But unlike teams of the past, this one didnt completely fold. They manned up and hit them right back. Man I was pumped after that game. I was fully ready to go to Ames and welcome the team back but when I heard Campbell didn't want anything like that, that made me even happier. I could tell he was different.

Exactly. When OU went up 14-0 without really trying, my thought was "seen this movie before."

Rhoads did a lot with his upsets to convince us that a win was possible against anyone, but OU was still a big problem for us. For Campbell to get that feather in his cap second year, it helped set the tone.

Another aspect...they had already played 6 games by the end of September

Glad they don't make teams do that anymore

Had a friend that was there and said it was like OU put it all together and looked like they had 20 players on the field.

That was my freshman year. Great roller coaster ride as to what being an Iowa State fan was. Ranked in the top 10 at some point too IIRC.

7th grade for me. Number 9 in the AP going into the game against Oklahoma with Seneca being the front runner for the Heisman. All of that was over in the first half of that game.

Edit: fiancée and I will be headed down there as well

FarmClone is right- we went into that game ranked #9. I went to that game- far and away the loudest crowd I’ve ever heard. We were beat the minute we fumbled that kick.

We’re a different team now with a different culture- I can’t wait to go to Norman this year. Its better to give than receive- I propose we hook them up with a serious kick to the nuts instead.
