Now that the tunnel wall forms are up, any ideas how they’ll get the concrete in for the pour? They brought in a pumper truck on the west side of the Jake to pour the tunnel floor. But that way is now blocked by walkway forms and support scaffolding. I see four options:
  • Wait until walkway is poured, cured and supports removed and use pumper truck.
  • Bring cement trucks up the hill by the concourse (scary).
  • Bring cement trucks around east side of the Jake (if the walkway is done on that side).
  • Use the two cranes to shuttle a concrete bucket like they did with the wall forms.
I think the last option is most likely. Thoughts?
my best guess is they'll bring the trucks up the hill by the concourse. I haven't seen it in person but I have a feeling it would look less daunting in person than it does on the camera. It looks like there's a well defined path from the machinery already and a decent opening between the new wall and the stands. I guess we'll wait and see

They're not driving loaded concrete trucks up that incline, they'll end up pumping it.

Is it really steep? I can't get a good feel for the incline from the camera. I'm probably misjudging the slope by alot.
I did see some of those dump trucks needing several attempts to get up the hill. I can’t imagine doing that with a sloshing load full of cement. They did do some additional work on the hill, so it may be better now. You have to admit it would make interesting viewing!

I was thinking the same thing that they will pour the walls today and start to backfill around them next week while also setting the lid to the tunnel to extend out to the full wall.
Looking at the slope of the retaining wall forms on the east end of the tunnel, I don't think there's going to be a lid. I bet that area will remain open and a fence will be put around it, similar to how it was.

Concrete doesn't fully cure for 4 weeks and doing past commercial construction even with the forms and supports the concrete will only have foot traffic unless an engineer signs off on it.
Are there any qualified Engineers in Ames to sign off on it? ;)

Appears to be. It's most likely topsoil for the grass on the hillsides. Looks awfully dark compared to the rest of the fill they've brought in for the hillside (although that could just be the lighting).
Black Dirt Matters.

We want beautiful, lush grass!

They can only wish for that in Hok land.

Personally, I thought that would be the biggest argument for a “lid”. The roof wouldn’t slope, but the line of soil atop it will.

My mind is telling me that the lines on the existing walls line up to well with where a lid would go and they will fill just up to that point as they did in the SE corner. Not trying to campaign for lid or no lid just that's what I've thought this whole time.
We may also never know if they take the afternoon off every Friday...

I think I just saw the flatbed for the crane pull up—but it’s just sitting in the street without turning.

At least, before I started posting this.
I think they are loading it now, but they have been loading for about an hour. It appears they keep scooting the trailer further south. It’s hard to tell because most of the action is hidden behind the scoreboard. :(

Yeah, what’s the deal? About all they’ve done on the hilltop this afternoon is clean up leftover scraps of styrofoam.

Perhaps they’re working a Saturday?
That’s possible. They did bring in a bunch of dirt on the Saturday before installing the retaining wall panels. They need those tunnel walls finished soon so they can start backfilling that area. Plus we really need to know if there is a cap or no.:D
