Best Athletic Shoe

I have wide feet and have New Balance 1080 Fresh Foam for running and walking and Fresh Foam Lavs for tennis. I wear Brooks Ghosts for work a lot of days, I will probably try something else next. I have a couple pairs of wide Nike Pegasus that I love, but they come in garbage colors.

Hokas felt like I was sliding around and I wanted to love them.

One thing that I didn't see mentioned was budget. I'm dropping between $130-150 a pair and some people just don't find value in that.

Fitness Sports, Fleet Feet, Gary Gribbles and places like that are great, but they won't have anything under a hundred bucks.

Mizuno wave creation was probably my favorite shoe ever but that was 14 years ago too. Still have them though! Had a cheaper Saucony trail shoe that was outstanding also. Now all I wear is Columbia shoes because my wife works for the company. Not the best but they've gotten better over the years and a lot of people like the Montrails.

I swear by these and have tired them all. Foot doctor suggested them and it is all I own. Moved my Ghosts to mowing the lawn only.

My sister probably runs about 100 miles a week. She swears by her Hokas

I was recommended Hokas by a retired army colonel I know who has run over 100 marathons including several ultra marathons. I figured he probably knew what he was talking about so I picked up a pair and they’ve been great but I only use them for running. Asics are my go-to for everything else.

If you're in the metro, head over to Fitness Sports in Clive. They'll get you in the right shoe.
bought my last 2 pairs of running shoes from them when I need to run 3 miles still.. but highly recommend this. have a pair of Nike's now that I use as a general training shoe for weights and a small bit of running for warm ups.

British Knights or L.A. Gear. And if you're a serious runner, Kangaroos (they give you the best bounce).

Sorry home skillet, you are never in style with New Balance shoes.

That's interesting. I don't even know who some of these people are but I assume they are or were in style at one time.

A dude that runs ultras is going to need different shoes than someone that races 5ks or someone that runs 20 mi/week. Go to a good running/outdoor store and get some recommendations then try them out. If they don't have an, at least 30 day, return period buy them somewhere else. roadrunnersports.com is my goto.

Anyone that tells you to get a specific shoe doesn't know what they're talking about. 2nd roadrunner especially if you have a store nearby. I tried so many shoes before I had an actual fitting.

So my wide ass size 13 with a gigantic toe box isn't for everyone. Asics fit way too tight. I blew up my plantar plate in New Balance (probably my fault for not replacing them soon enough)

Tried Brooks, Mizuno etc.etc

Not that any of those are bad shoes. But footwear is very much a personal choice for fit, cushioning, and performance.

I even throw in Sorbothane insoles for extra extra cushioning. It's 70s technology. Heavy as hell. Not for everyone, but I roll with it in all of my shoes

I really wish we had a RR store in Iowa.

I've been in the market for a new pair of running shoes so I stopped by here last night and got hooked up. If price is an issue, they've got past year products that you can get for under $100.

I’m a loyal Brooks guy, my past four pairs of running shoes have all been Brooks Ravennas. Honestly, the best thing to do is go to an actual athletic shoe store and try some one. Everyone feels differently about different shoes.

I cut the grass in the New Balance 624's as a joke.. I love those shoes but my wife get's really upset when I talk about wearing them out in public as I'm still under 30.

Sounds like several people are recommending the Brooks Ghost. I'll check them out. I may end up driving over to Fitness Sports in Clive to find the best fit as I will be wearing these for many, many miles pushing the kiddo around this summer
