It shouldn't but it will. Pausing because 1 in a million had a bad reaction so they can get more information out to understand and better treat the side effects shows how stupid safe it all actually is.
Yeah this pause SHOULD prove that they are being extremely thorough but people are dumb and will see it as a reason to not get the vaccine.

Agreed. Potential immediate aches/pains/reaction are nothing versus unknowable potential longer-term ramifications. As I understand it, these vaccines are completely different from any other prior vaccine in that they are entirely *novel* in approach. And not well tested. So, basically, there is a worldwide experiment underway. No telling how it will work out. This is completely (ultimately criminally?) downplayed in the push to get people to consent to vaccination.

If you are younger and your 25 Hydroxy vitamin D3 level is in the 60-80ng/ml range, your odds of being killed or harmed by this virus are miniscule, and taking the vaccine would be a senseless risk. If you are older, higher risk with co-morbidities, if 'long-term' for you means say 5 or 10 years, then perhaps consenting to the vaccine is a sensible gamble. IMO.

this is a really dumb post.

3 million people die every year from obesity... Better recall fast food NOW... Out of an abundance of caution...

1 in 500,000 chance you are struck by lightning (twice the J&J risk).. Better recall going outside when there is bad weather

We'd never drive another car if they recalled 1 in 1million issues

if it were all on a particular model and year of a car that has more scrutiny around it - like a self-driving car - they'd probably take a look.

Your premise is good, but your examples are bad.

Not exactly sure.

No dog in this fight but you do understand that some places (states also IIRC) have special taxes and/or limited things that cause Obesity like soft drinks or the sizes that can be sold. So some places are kinda recalling obesity products.

Let time pass. A year. Five years. Ten years. Then we'll know dumb/cogent.
Please provide a dissertation on the equally unknown long term effects of COVID-19 infection, Mr. or Ms Cogent analysis. You don't seem to be factoring that into your balancing of interests.

Reading through some material on placebo unblinding. I've been in a few settings where people have said/joked about not sure if they got the placebo.

From your understanding is placebo being randomized to people who don't know they are participating in a trial study?

I've read through this a few times, but can't grasp fully what is being communicated:

While vaccine supplies are limited, available vaccines are still investigational, or public health recommendations to use those vaccines have not been made, we believe it is ethically appropriate to continue blinded follow-up of placebo recipients in existing trials and to randomly assign new participants to vaccine or placebo. Moreover, under these conditions, we believe that trial sponsors are not ethically obligated to unblind treatment assignments for participants who desire to obtain a different investigational vaccine. People who enroll in clinical trials for altruistic reasons would probably understand the value of gathering data that will further elucidate the safety and efficacy of these vaccines and their appropriate use.

It takes hundreds or thousands of issues before auto companies recall vehicles. 6 issues in a 2020 F-150 would be called human error

And on a self-driving car? The tolerance would be much lower because public trust isn't nearly as high.

Was just trying to be obnoxious as to how stupid it is to recall a 1 in 1 million issue.

How many people are going to go without a J&J shot in the coming days that it could have saved there life? I feel like you can be public about the known issues. study them while proceeding with caution and still help save lives

If I'm a man or post-menopausal woman, I'd move ahead. If I'm a younger woman, especially if on hormonal birth control, I'd switch out of an abundance of caution. I think it's right in this situation to briefly pause to make sure it's coincidence or not before moving ahead. If it came out later that they knew and kept this under wraps, they are in far deeper ****.
