sounds like Ben Johnson, the newly hired MN coach, also interviewed with Northern Illinois and didn’t get that job
We've never recruited well in Minnesota for MBB, not looking for a sudden change in that. I can think of a number of good to great WBB players at ISU from Minnesota but none on the men's side other than maybe Jake Sullivan and that's pushing up against 20 years ago now.
Minnesota is loaded for the class of 2022 with seven 4* recruits. It will be interesting to see if TJ can get couple players and if MN can finally keep some of those recruits in state.

Afternoon talk radio in MSP was not kind re: the Johnson hiring, based on no HC experience and coming from being an asst at Xavier after having played and been an assistant at the U (of MN). Of course, Barreiro has a slight (i.e., HUGE) slant to being cynical/negative in general. But, while TJ may not have checked all boxes, he has tons more HC experience than this hire.
As someone else had posted, there was lots of pressure on the U to hire a minority, due to having none in its HC ranks. They evidently also must have heavily weighted the angle of trying to keep some area kids at home. We'll see if that works. They may have been constrained by budget issues like JP/ISU as well.

That would've been a great hire for them. Wonder what happened in the physical that was bad enough to call off the deal?

Not sure if this is true but the new gopher coach is getting $1.95M and some gopher fans are in meltdown mode over it.

Same as the rest of us, failed drug test. But based on both sides denying it, I'd guess no offer was extended and I doubt they'd extend one now.
If a physical is a requirement for a coach I have questions about a lot of coaches out there, starting with Huggy Bear.
