Indiana in basketball is the Nebraska of football. Difference being it's a lot easier for Indiana to strike lightning and become relevant with the right coach and a couple players. Nebraska is stuck in sucksville.
It you want a good laugh, gopher fans are acting like Eric Musselman is a reasonable get. I know he grew up a bit in Minneapolis and coached on the timberwolves staff. However, Arkansas at this point is a better job. No reason to leave a team with 3 highly talented freshman for a rebuild in Minnesota.
KXNO stated that UNI Ben Jacobson was interviewed over the weekend at Minnesota...

There's been plenty of talk about the Gophers having the least diverse coaching staff in the Big 10 so this at least puts them on the positive side of that criticism although he won't be the Gophers first black MBB coach (Clem and Tubby). Maybe too much of a repeat of no-experience Pitino but we will see. Issue of losing best Minnesota kids to other schools is a big issue and Johnson is supposed to be a recruiter. AD made that a point of emphasis in his statements on seeking a coach.
Hometown guy, ex-Gopher player and ex-assistant so has big home and university connections. Hoiberg hire like roll of the dice but he has actual recruiting experience.
Penn State also just hired an assistant to be their head coach, Purdue assistant Micah Shrewsberry.

MN might have just made the most disappointing/boring hires of the past decade. Maybe that was who they wanted all along, but that seams like option #30.
I don't think it is a bad idea to get a diverse staff, but you would think they could find someone at least like Dana Ford. I just get a vibe from gophers i know that they wanted to go with an established head coach this time around.
However, if you can lock down the state talent you got yourself a pretty decent core every few years. Plus I think with the whole One of Us angle, this will be his dream job.
Indiana just needs the right coach. The big difference is IU can win at a high level with a roster comprised with a lot of Indiana HS kids.
Nebraska football (or basketball) can't win with a lot of Nebraska HS kids.

I wanted to check out what the Gopher fans think... Yeesh, not happy is an understatement. (on the plus side could help TJ get his foot in the door with some MN players)
Iirc pretty hard. They had to cut 98 student athlete scholarships including sports.
