As far as not being an X and O guy, I was never impressed with Prohm as a floor coach. TJ can't be any worse. I don't understand all the hate on here for him.

Agree 100%. Basically anyone--anyone--they hire will be an immediate and significant improvement over Prohm. No identity. No scheme. Teams that flat out quit 15x/year.

Plus these candidate lists are delusional. In what world is Dana Altman or any lateral going to come to the bare cupboard in Ames. This isn't like talking over for Hoiberg. Of the Power 5 jobs that are open, ours has to be the most daunting. Thanks Prohm!

I can’t help but laugh at all the people who are butt hurt at the process which they don’t have any idea about... none of us do. If people honestly think Jamie just decided to let Prohm go, then started a search, called his buddy and hired him without considering anyone else... you are an idiot.

Quit whining about process. It is what losers do. And when you whine about a process you know no facts about, you are an idiot loser.

Just for kicks and giggles, you folks that are pissing about the timeline; suppose JP went to his lake home the next 4 days with three cases of beer. During that time he periodically floats out some rumors that are typical in these searches. Meanwhile TJ our coach in waiting goes on a recruiting excursion. He is free from NCAA violations because he would not be recruiting for UNLV. At the end of it all TJ becomes our next men’s basketball coach. Is this now a better process? Or should we just get it on down the road since it is inevitable.
So in your scenario TJ has resigned from UNLV?

What an arrogant and immature comment

Well, assuming this is a done deal, I hope the best for TJ. Please refrain from commemorating his hire (or anyone else if we’ve been punked) by noting that he’ll be better than Prohm. Prohm just led us to 0-19 in conference. Repeat, 0-19, in conference. That is not a “performance” bar that even exists for a coach.

Daum is the SDSU Player that TJ turned into a Conference Player of the Year who unfortunately did not have enough talent to make the NBA. Sounds like some good Coaching.
This is ******** anyone who watched Daum as a freshman knew he is already special. All conference, all freshman , 6xth man of year

Which option isn't a risk?
That’s not the risk he’s speaking of.
When you hire a coach there’s a risk they’ll fail. When you hire your friend in 24 hours without genuinely pursuing candidates conventionally viewed as better, it should be your job at risk.

JP will be in his 60’s by the time we know. He may not be planning on dealing with the consequences

His per 40 minute stats barely budged. Less coaching up, more just increased playing time.

FWIW, I feel the exact same about this (TJ) hire as I did with McDermott. I was ok with Fred from the start. Everyone in Ames wanted him to succeed and would help in any way possible.

Its what he wanted to do last time.

Its what he probably is doing this time.

He's making a hire that determines the future of the next several years for the program. That makes it worthy of doing a full search and interview process. Never know if someone will excel in their interview.
