He will get 5 years, regardless of record.
Most coaches probably have 3 years to get ISU to the NCAA bubble. TJ, if it is needed will get a much longer rope.

Can you imagine trying to fire your best friend?

I mean I hope I'm wrong but we will see.

That’s fine. I’m just saying that getting 96 wins in 5 years is a bit ludicrous to predict.

The fact that you think that nepotism is only about family shows me that you don't know what nepotism is. At the end of the day, call it whatever you want. It's a completely ****** practice to favor your friends for jobs and not give others a fair chance at the same job. Again, imagine you're someone who has a winning percentage of 0.750 the last 3 years and you're beat out by someone because they're friends with the hiring manager. I could care less what term you use to describe that - you could call it cronyism too - it's an unfair and ****** practice, and corrupt.

Been there on that scenario - pretty obvious at some major companies - even in Ames

That really is dependent on what progress we will see. Nobody anywhere gets 5 years regardless of record.. well nobody but Greg McDermott at Iowa State I guess.

By the way, I'll root for anybody who gets hired as coach of ISU...unless they're an *******. I don't expect JP to hire one of those though. No reason to root against a new coach. TJ isn't my first choice at all, but if he's truly the next ISU head coach then I will root for him just as hard as anyone at ISU.

Jamie Pollard is the best Athletics Director in the country, and **** anyone on this forum who disagrees.

Who cares what we think, I'm riding with him on this hire, let's give our new coach a chance and hope for a great 2021-22 season.

I love Jamie. I don’t love this hire. But if this hire means we keep Jamie and Campbell, I’ll take it.

No different than people claiming he’ll be fired in 4 years or will be a total failure.

If anyone follows college sports, it will be years before we know how to grade this hire.

I'm sorry, but Rhoads was a good hire. Yeah, he's not Campbell, but not many are. Rhoads did some good things and while he couldn't sustain it, he still had a better tenure than most ISU coaches.
His win percent at Iowa State was on par with the Donnie Duncan’s and Jim Waldens of the program.

I work for a Fortune 25 company - like we're notoriously "old boys club" stereotypically. There's still truth to it depending on which department you're in. The last few years we've been changing a ton and one of the ways is this, basically. HR has really clamped down on this and is making everyone be more fair in their hiring process. It sometimes takes a little longer, but it's done us well so far in terms of getting better talent.

I know TJ loves Iowa State. And Iowa State IS his dream job. We’ve all known TJ has wanted this opportunity at ISU. I hope his enthusiasm and love for this university spreads success. We know he will bring in high quality Big 12 athletes. Can he coach them?

I think this is why I’m struggling a bit. This league is filled with elite coaches. Top notch, expert coaches. So as much potential as he may have the “not sure if he can coach“ disclaimer is troublesome..

Yep. Not my first choice but if it is him, then I’m onboard. Whoever it is, it’s time to find some players, get to coaching and being the Magic back! If it’s TJ, he knows the job and should be ready to hit the ground running. Could be a fun spring.
Hope is not a good strategy but that's all I've got right now. I don't dislike TJ - just not sure he is what will make ISU BB great. I hope so. I worried when Pollard said he the coaching hire would move really fast - but not sacrifice quality. I should've known then that he already had his hire. Again....back to hoping....

Think of what it takes to be a great coach at ISU: one deep tournament run and TJ will be immortalized. Maybe Otz will be the one who gets over Iowa State’s terrible postseason luck. You guys are being too cynical
Yep. We’ll know after year one how it’s going to go. He’s got a monumental task in front of him.

Unfortunately he also hired Greg McDermott, Gene Chizik, Paul Rhoads, and Steve Prohm. 2/4 hopefully not soon to be 2/5.
So about 2/3 of his hires didn't work out. But 1/3 of his hires turned out to be some of the best in school history. That's pretty freaking good if you ask me.
