I really enjoyed the podcast - I think its the best ISU podcast discussion available every week.
And then I read this thread to find our why it was actually in fact terrible.

You people are nuts to think ISU is a top-half job in the Big 12. Any national guy will put us much closer to the bottom than the top. Look at the coaches these schools have brought in. We would have no chance at a Lon Kruger, Shaka Smart (at the time), Bob Huggins. If we're such a top-notch program, why are we always scraping the bottom of the barrel for coaching candidates?Texas basktball has pathetic fan support. There is no way they are the 2nd most coveted job in the conference. The 3 northern teams along with West Virginia have by far the best fan support and facilities compared to the Texas schools.
Tech looks to be closing that gap but that's to be expected when you get a coach like Beard.
It's blatantly obvious that Covid has impacted the schools that rely on new rosters every year. Kentucky and Duke jsut don't suck like this out of nowhere.I do think this is a majority of the case, but there are some counter examples too. Kentucky being the biggest one. How do we explain the good coaches that are struggling? Honestly a genuine question because I have no idea
Put WVU 4th and KSU 7th and I'd agree. Those fanbases should give them a boost. But we're splitting hairs there.
Kruger got a second chance after he was a mid major coach, Huggins is from West Virginia. Shaka Smart caught lightning in a bottle similar to Moser at Loyola and hes a horrible coach for Texas. You people are nuts to think ISU is a top-half job in the Big 12. I put Tech where they’re at because they were pretty decent in the 90s and when Knight was there. They might be a little overvalued at the moment having a generational coaching talent, but they can be solid with the right pieces in place
The Big 12 is about to experience a lot of big name coaching turnover in the next 5 years:
shaka - better get to a FF in the next three years
Weber - he’s getting old at KSU
beard - jumping to something bigger
Huggins - retirement
Self - who knows why he’ll be out but that doesn’t really matter because KU can have it’s pick
This hire is big for ISU. These are obviously just my opinion of names I can see leaving using the next 5 years.
I'd be reluctant to use the word 'program' when describing the current basketball situation. We have an excellent practice facility, one of the premier stadiums in the country with upgrades coming, a performance center and academic center rivaling any in the nation, and a fan-base second to none. So, I'd prefer to say the current staff has not performed to our expectations. Not that the program is bad. We should be able to entice a quality coach, or at the very least one which will scrape their knuckles to make it the best. It's blatantly obvious that Covid has impacted the schools that rely on new rosters every year. That being said, this is a really bad basketball program right now and no amount of July practices or more games against Nebraska-Omaha would have changed the outcome of the season.
Agreed, this is exactly why I feel Iowa St is still one of the top jobs in the conference. The Texas schools jsut don't have the fanbase, athletic department support, or basketball history as the 4 northern schools.I'd be reluctant to use the word 'program' when describing the current basketball situation. Prohm has been here 6 years and I believe Solomon Young is his only 4 year guy. That stat alone signals many different problems that are occuring.
When he did have the players we went 9-9 and that signals a problem also.
I really liked how Chris was like, “Ughhh ya just want to put this out there that Blum I don’t KNOW anything”...well yes, I’m sure that’s accurate, but that word trick isn’t working on us. We know you’re HEARING a lot of things. Why not share?
Because this is not the premium forum?
My point remains the same. That's premium content. The podcast and this fourm is free.I was talking about on the podcast.

Fran would be better. He actually knows this conference very well. After March, I'll call up Jeff Goodman and get him on a pod with me to talk about where he - a national guy - sees the job against the rest of the Big 12. Will be interesting to see.
Here’s the question phrased a different way that is able to be answered with a yes or no:You have clearly never followed a Jamie Pollard coaching decision / search before.
Here’s the question phrased a different way that is able to be answered with a yes or no:
In your opinion, will Steve Prohm be the HC at ISU on 3/15/2021?
The title of the podcast is "How good is the ISU basketball job".... I think that spells it out clearly about what Williams is hearing
