I’m not remembering but who was a better recruiter TJ or Matt A
TJ Otz for High School, Matt A for Transfers.
Question for JP is what he wants for ISU moving forward.
Not to avocate for either Coach but since this thread has boiled down to the debate of these 2 if hired:
Hoiberg
Pro - quicker turn around. The transfer landscape has changed from his first stint but actually could be to his (and Matt A's) benefit. He has already shown an ability to get transfers in this new era to NEB. Fred is still a name in MBB and would improve the likely hood some of the high end players stay (Bolton, Xavier, Hunter) Plus its likely they won't have to wait on a sit out year for the players to contribute. Could possibly bring some high end transfers from Lincoln right away.
Con - Fred does have health concerns and there is the possiblity it would be a short run if he gets the pro itch or just decides he'd done with coaching. He's not a lifer IMO even if he's successful. Cost. still not sure about paying a buyout and a comprable salaray that he's currently getting.
Otzelberger
Pros - Proven MW recruiter and has gotten talent to UNLV. Long history with JP and ISU. He would likely be in for the long haul to build and stay if successful. I would guess the contract would be in the bottom 2-3 of the Big 12 considering his current resume. Would need to pay for very good Asst coaches to help him get a foot hold.
Cons - Doesn't have the name that Fred has so much more difficult to keep current players and hit early on transfers.
Likey ISU will be in the bottom of the B12 for 2-3 years as he gets the program going IMO. While he had some success at SDSU with a ready made roster hasn't demonstrated in the MWC yet (early) is he ready for the B12 coach compition? Will the fans accept a slow build after these past couple of years?
