Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

Remember when Campbell was wanted for head coaching jobs. He WANTED to come to ISU becuase it's a special place!

What's so special about Minny? The barn is weird and dated with no history. Local fans only really care about the pro teams and top recruits in-state lately haven't been choosing to stay in-state and play for Pitino
Different people want different things. Something may feel special to him about Minnesota. Ames has limited history in the big picture. If he wants the Minnesota job, I hope he gets it.

So if JP doesn’t want Fred back then he should be fired?

NO. There is no way in hell that I would choose Fred over JP. No Way.

I want Prohm replaced. And I will support whomever JP chooses. Whether that would be Fred, TJ or some other candidate. But Prohm is done.
I was with you until you brought up TJ. Everything else, spot on.

I don't think Sig said that. I think he said if the only reason Jamie won't hire Fred back is because of Jamie's ego / a grudge he may have, then that is not going to go over well with some of the ISU boosters and it could lead to him getting fired down the road. Especially if Jamie's next hire sucks and Fred ends up doing well at Nebraska or somewhere else.

A guy that barely plays on his current team and a guy we weren't even real close to getting that wasn't coming anyway. The guys we got were better options than those.
To be fair, Aiken hurt his ankle really badly prior to the season I believe. And Tucker wouldn't have really mattered considering he didn't make grades at Memphis.

I loved what Fred did for our program. Being relevant is fun. But let's look at his history

View attachment 82511

His ISU teams had a ceiling. Never better than 12-6 (which sound silly to complain about in the CSP dumpster fire era). But can we not also hope for a CMC type leader for MBB. I think if ISU is good, we will win Big 12 tournaments regardless of coaching. We DOMINATE the T-Mobile Center (was Sprint Center) and that was proven with a terrible coach in CSP still winning conference ships.

Now let's look at my top choice Craig Smith. He's about to have 15 conference wins in 2/3 years

View attachment 82512

His teams are DOMINATE rebounders, get to the free throw line A LOT better than CSP teams, don't force a ton of free throws by fouling, guard the 2 point shots impressively well..
Interesting info, and I'd hope he gets a serious look. But, I think someone suggested that he has a vibe like PJ Fleck. Is that true?? If so, he's a definite "no", as that's near the top of my list, right after #1 - He's not Steve Prohm ... actually, will be happy for him to have Steve's humility, but needs to be a very good BB coach and have some fire and accountability too.

If there's no announcement today, is there precedent for anything like this being announced by ISU on a Saturday? Season schedule-wise, it would make sense. But news releases rarely happen on weekends.

Someone hasn't watched enough PJ Fleck, then.
Smith came off as legitimate and enthusiastic with charisma. Fleck comes off brutally fake.

TJ actually has a better recruiting class coming in than Fred. TJ actually recruited all the ISU greats that spurred Hoiberg’s success. Hoiberg hated recruiting. TJ has a helluva recruiting reputation. But I really do not care about TJ one way or the other. TJ has been mentioned as a possible replacement so that is why I mentioned him. And really don’t care if neither Fred nor TJ are selected.

We will not fire Prohm until after the season. Expect next weekend to be when the news drops. Honestly, Sunday seems like the day they'll do it. Jamie will give us Saturday to do all the freaking out on why the announcement hasn't been made.

Nah, Craig Smith has charisma but it comes off as genuine and passionate. He doesn’t have that used car salesman vibe that PJ Fleck gives off.

Your personal position on this issue is sound, and it is quite similar to mine.

The problem is the rest of the fanbase and the bigwig donors.

Words gets out that Fred wanted to come home and that money really wasn't an issue because some plutocrats were willing to write the big check to make it happen, and JP refused because reasons...

...and JP will have the peasants outside his office with pitchforks and torches.

Great to hear. I definitely agree on PJ. PJ's all about PJ.

So, what's the tie with Smith to Minn?? There are at least two candidates that have those ties that Minnesotans so badly want -- Dutcher (think he's the son of Minn BB coach from past) and Saunders - the love affair with him up here is staggering; seems like a good guy, but not sure where the proof of coaching chops is.
