Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

If I'm a teenage kid about to commit important years of my life to a coach it would be a big factor to me if that coach had previously and abruptly left the same university he's trying to recruit me to now. And you can bet that if other coaching staffs are recruiting against ISU in this situation then they will play that card.
No big deal anymore, transfers are the norm.

That’s the thing you’re not grasping. Big donors aren’t backing up the truck for just anyone. Fred is the unicorn.

Fair enough. Then it’s the donors that are stupid. Haha. If you are going to spend $15+ million on buyouts, why not take an extra $5 million and go offer someone $5 million per year and really make a splash.

If there really is $15 mil in buyout money (I highly doubt there is). Add $5 million for a total of $20 mil. Use $5 mil for Prohm buyout. Use the remaining $15 mil for an additional $3 mil/5 years on a deal. Add in the $2.5 mil currently used for Prohm’s salary. That’s $5.5 million per year for someone which we could make someone the 3rd highest paid coach in college basketball.

Or I guess hire Nebraska’s coach with similar money...

There are two parts to this equation. I don’t think you understand how far this program has gone down. JP needs something more than some guy. Butts in seats, excitement from the fan base. The 20 people here that are in fantasyland about John Bielien and Thad Matta aren’t representative of what is going to get some excitement and optimism in to the program.

It’s weird to me how people are looking at this. You get one of your own. You always take one of your own at ISU. We’re a small family as it is.

But what about Dana Altman

Where have I heard that name before??? Oh that’s right, every ******* time there’s been an opening here. How many times did he come here? Another weird fantasy name that comes up every time.

I'll be honest - I never understood the FH haters after he left. I wanted him to stay too, but he clearly wanted to try his hand in the NBA. He's a former player for many years, plus front office worker and scout. This is a given. Why wouldn't you want to coach a bunch of people who can actually play at the highest level, and by the way you don't have to recruit?

Didn't work out for him ultimately and he came back to college. Maybe he had a change of heart. Things happen - people change all the time in their lives.

I'd welcome him back and see what he can do again. Hopefully if he came back, it would be good things. And yeah, no - we aren't getting Thad Matta or Bielien or something like that. Maybe when Fred left it's more of a reality but uh, no. Not happening.

I'll second this. Albuquerque is a nice mountain/desert city.

Rest of the state is a wasteland, though.

Disagree, the Sangre De Crista mountains have some amazing skiing and snowboarding. When they opened up Taos to snowboards I was like the 10th person in the lift line. I learned to ride big mountains at Angel Fire and Red River.

Cloudcroft in the south is also an amazing place visually.

I wouldnt say its all a wasteland.

I quite enjoyed going to white sands and then driving up to cloudcroft when i visited las cruces (which itself is a nice little college town)

I agree. If Fred is looking to leave Nebraska after 2 years, it is not because he is looking to take another college coaching job.

Take a less stressful job in college athletic administration or NBA front office. Enjoy some family time. Heck, he could even do some TV to make a little coin.

Personally, if I were Jamie there is NO WAY IN HELL I would pay a $5M - $10M buyout that some coaches have. I would just go after a big name like Motta or Beilein and offer them $5M per year. I would rather use the buyout dollars for a big name. I have seen that the buyout money is tied to a specific coach, but if the donor can't see their $ are better used on a big name coach, their reasons for donating are twisted.

Also, in general I am against multi-million $ buyouts. I think there are quality mid-major head coaches out there with small buyouts or even take a look at a P5 assistant.
Uhhhh. Our BB coach ain't making more than our FB coach who rocks it and pays the bills for the BB coach. .
