Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

Nebraska is going to have 10ish million **** yous in that case, then.

That’s like saying school will have to pay us Prohms buyout. I’d be shocked if Iowa State didn’t waive it, and I’d be surprised if Nebraska wasn’t willing to negotiate it.

Unless they are sold on Hoiberg and think he will turn it around, but rumor is they aren’t sold.

I can’t imagine Fred coming back naked no sense to me.

but I just feel like that last season and that surgery took a lot out of him, never had the same fire after that. Hell remember his last year? He couldn’t wear a tie because it cut off circulation to his brain and the guy was as white as a ghost.

I just think his heart took a lot out of him, feels tired to me.
I agree. If Fred is looking to leave Nebraska after 2 years, it is not because he is looking to take another college coaching job.

Take a less stressful job in college athletic administration or NBA front office. Enjoy some family time. Heck, he could even do some TV to make a little coin.

Personally, if I were Jamie there is NO WAY IN HELL I would pay a $5M - $10M buyout that some coaches have. I would just go after a big name like Motta or Beilein and offer them $5M per year. I would rather use the buyout dollars for a big name. I have seen that the buyout money is tied to a specific coach, but if the donor can't see their $ are better used on a big name coach, their reasons for donating are twisted.

Also, in general I am against multi-million $ buyouts. I think there are quality mid-major head coaches out there with small buyouts or even take a look at a P5 assistant.

Lol. Ya okay what ever makes them feel better. Taking 10 million of some billionaires money in exchange for Fred and their recruiting class, plus the throw in of them starting over AGAIN and probably not seeing their FIRST NCAA tourney win for at least three more years is money well spent, not some **** you to Albaugh or ISU.

As a graduate of Iowa State graphic design, and a 15+ year professional in marketing, advertising and video production. I don't think Fred has much of what anyone is looking for in TV. He could do that in Ames, IA and that's about the only place.

I know this is hard to understand for everyday people, but basketball is literally Fred Hoiberg’s lifeblood and passion. It’s like some guy that lives for being a brain surgeon and saving lives. That guy isn’t just going to go off and sit behind a desk and be happy.

Also, Matta and Bielien don’t want to coach at Iowa State. I don’t know why that’s such a hard concept for people to grasp.

Is Fred a "reasonable candidate" given his buyout with Nebraska?

No. Or not without significant negotiation. Prohm has a $5 million buyout. Hoiberg has a $10 million buyout. There is a 0.0% chance Pollard is spending that kind of money on a basketball coach.

of course he will. It won’t be his money. And he will never risk upsetting donors he goes to when he needs something big

Repeat it with me one more time:

Buyout money doesn’t come out of JP’s or ISU’s pocket.

Ok then. No one is paying $15 million to fire Prohm and hire Hoiberg. Because Pollard isn’t that stupid to use their money on a basketball coach. At that point, go back a truckload of money to a highly successful current coach.

This isn’t that hard...Fred Hoiberg isn’t coming back to coach here next year.

Check out New Mexico's record......and in what conference. We are bad.....they are next level bad. And Steve has proven he can win. He did it here and at Murray State. And many think we can't get a good hire.....try New Mexico. We are a Duke type job compared to them.

Prohm is not getting a head coaching job next season at a school in a top 10ish power conference next year. Coaches who go 0-18 in conference are not attractive hires for AD's looking to excite their school's fans and sell season tickets.

New Mexico has a strong tradition and a rabid fan base. New Mexico is Hilton Magic light with the Pit. The names ESPN is mentioning with New Mexico are Richard Pitino and Frank Martin (relationship with NM AD).

I’m not saying that Hoiberg is coming back or not, but you realize that hypothetical money would have to be used for buying them both out right? They’re not just handing Jamie $15 million for whatever, they’re saying they’ll hand over this $15 million if Jamie buys out Prohm and Hoiberg...

Do you honestly think when Fred was let go from the Bulls, he was like "You know what program I'd really like to coach? The Nebraska Cornhuskers. A university and fanbase that could give 2 s**** about the basketball team and is arguably the worst P5 program in the nation."

Fred didn't and doesn't want to be in Lincoln.

That’s the thing you’re not grasping. Big donors aren’t backing up the truck for just anyone. Fred is the unicorn.
