Does Creighton's McDermott Keep His Job?

Was just thinking, wouldn't it be wild if he lost his job and that somehow put into motion our next coach, lol.

Not something you should say but not something he should be fired for either. Especially considering how he has been handling it since then. He's doing all the right things after saying something regrettable.

If he's fired you guys will hear my eyes roll. Unless there's more to it, of course.

He’ll be fine. Murph told me that Kirk Ferentz solved racism last year

I think he said it in the heat of the moment to shock them and get their attention. I think he knew it would be shocking language. I also think he realized pretty quickly that going there was a massive mistake.

I don't think he believes African Americans are inferior humans. He's been in this industry too long to have kept that hidden up to this point if he really felt that way.

Apologizing was the right thing to do, but I don't think he will (or should) lose his job.

Exactly. In this day and age if you're a repeat-offender racist it would have come out by now. It would seem to me everyone who has been around Greg seems to have had positive things to say about him as a person.

Regrettable use of words, but you can't just disregard intent. And if those involved understand it was not intended in some pejorative way, then that's all that should be required and move on. I always find it interesting that the Twitter-mob seems to be more offended than the actual people involved.

I'm not some big reverse-racism guy, but I'm pretty sure I heard Fran during the Baylor v. WVU game last night say that a JUCO coach told Huggins "hey, I have this white guy down here you should come take a look at" in reference to McNeil. I thought that was sure an interesting way to put it. Obviously an apples to oranges comparison, but I remember thinking at that was maybe a regrettable way to phrase that, but not ill-intentioned.

In years past I'd say an apology would settle this along with some time. Today, I'm not so sure...nothing would surprise me!

Now for my serious answer, I think Greg will be fine, as he’s apologized and seems committed to making things right.

Now, if it comes out that this has been a pattern with him, then he’s in trouble

In my experience words like that just don't come to mind. You can rest assured he has used them before some context. Does it make him a bad person.....heck no. Everyone is so on the ready to be offended and just waiting to isolate, marginalize and stigmatize anyone for anything it's nauseating. GMAC is a lot of things.....and I don't know the guy.....but I'm certain he is not what people might be thinking or implying. And losing his job shouldn't even be a thought.

And this from a guy who doesn't allow his players to use swear words in practice.

Honest-to-God question, is this a saying people use? It just seems like such an odd phrase. While I'd imagine his intent wasn't race related, it's just an odd saying.

He did wait until yesterday to make any sort of public apology. That seems to be a bit forced if he realized immediately that he had made a mistake. I would have figured he would have immediately apologized by Sunday as opposed to putting something out at about the same time as his assistant coach made a statement for another media source.

I’ve heard the reservation term before but I’ve never heard plantation used in that sense. I don’t think he meant it in a harmful way but it wouldn’t surprise me to see this ending his tenure at Creighton.

with the above being said, and just getting honest about the subject I can’t say that I’d ever use a phrase like that but for I’m sure I’ve said things that people have/would find just as offensive as this.

It’s geographic. In the south they say plantation.

there is no way it’s a one off for chewy. That expression doesn’t just “happen”

he’s winning enough, it won’t matter.
