***Official 2021 Weather Thread***

it looks like my plans to smoke some chicken wings for the Super Bowl won't happen now.
I did two full briskets in a blizzard many years ago. Still talked about today. It can be done. Had a couple fires flare up and I was able to use snow backs to but them out.

So...bumping up my plans to drive to Iowa City Thursday morning. Looks like that means an overnight tonight. Yay...

Dislike.

I'm teaching face to face and this plays all kinds of hell with my schedule (particularly the labs).
Time to think about Plan B and formulate Plan C.

Yeah...not a chance you have in person stuff tomorrow. Be on the lookout for delays next week as well due to the cold.

So what is it looking like will happen in Des Moines for Thursday and now Saturday? A little bit of snow/ice, more than was originally predicted, or what?

An FYI........25 years ago to date, about a week after the blizzard of 96' in which temps just kept falling everyday....lows were in the -20's and -30's statewide with a -47 near Elkader. Chariton was -38. Those were temps......not wind chills. I think what's depressing about this is that cold outbreaks like this aren't uncommon every winter and usually have happened a couple of times by now every year so we are use to it. Being the first.....in February makes it a downer. I was hoping we would skip this type of thing this year.

Every winter officially sucks balls. The one not so sucky thing about this winter is that we got a bunch of days over freezing to get some melting. But yeah, still sucks balls.

Luckily given the amount of snow we've had. Would be out of places to put it otherwise.

I remember this for sure. I was at ISU and classes were cancelled due to cold. Fun times!

Exactly 10 years ago we got about 16" of snow in Clarence. My last day of work was Feb 2. I had a ticket to fly to Florida from CR on that morning. I cleared a shovel-width path to the street.

I was sure my flight would be cancelled, but there was no indication on the web. My sister and BIL came to pick me up. They got between Mechanicsville and Stanwood on 30 and the traffic was stopped. So they turned around and went back to CR and down 380 to 80 then up from there. Then back to CR again the same way.

Fortunately they/we had planned on possible problems and I just made it in time.
