My favorite play of the game!
Safety bit, no one over the top and he didn't recover (two, even three defenders ended up being in the vicinity of Shaw underneath on a slant). Even had he recovered, I still think Charlie makes that catch easily. There is a lot of action going on in that play (down and distance played into this - most of the routes were underneath and headed to the first down marker (3rd and 5). Charlie snuck out on a flag route and the underneath action got the defense to play up. Blown coverage for sure. Looking at it closer, X (I think) was on the weak side and ran underneath the drop by the defense and he was pretty wide open as well. Purdy definitely had some options there on the play.
And he didn't even get in position to make block/make contact.
It was almost like he was a decoy or something.
It looked like Soehner just knew where the play was going and wasn't expecting the hit.

When I watched Kolar catch this live, I thought he positioned his hands weird during the catch. I had this split-second where I thought he was dropping it. I'm not what it is exactly, but something still looks off compared to what I'm used to seeing with his catches.
Maybe it's because he doesn't have a CB or LB hanging on him...
Easy to move someone if their weight is offset and they're not expecting it.

That's what I noticed too...it doesn't even look like he's prepared for any contact at all and then gets rocked! Gotta keep your
head on a swivel!!Regarding the block against OU...as anyone whose played football knows... If you play much at all, eventually both scenarios will happen to you.
I don’t remember that but I do remember Vance getting just laid out on I think a touchdown run for Oregon.
The strong safety rotated up, he should have stuck with kolar, instead he continued up and to pick up the over the middle pass to the wideout, the guy that originally was on Kolar in the slot, gave him up to pick up the motion man. The free safety did nothing on play, he should have rotated over to his left. The left WR is also wide open as he crossed underneath.
Watch the play and stop it at 2, 3, 4 and then 5 seconds. The strong safety did not even see Kolar until he had caught the pass.

It looked to me the safety jumped forward after Milton reversed direction and came back in motion the other way. The safety blew it long before the snap. At least that is my guess in what he was thinking, I don’t know. The skycam view is what led me to believe that.
If you watch the play, they were in man to man, you can tell because the corner, stays with the WR as he runs an in route, if they had been in a zone, he would have let the wr go and picked up the motion man, that was coming into his zone. The man that was on Kolar passed him off to pick up the motion man. The strong safety comes up, and instead of jumping out to get Kolar, he also jammed the WR from the right, he is still facing that receiver, when Kolar catches the pass. That had to have been his man, there is no way the free safety can cross the field to pick him up.
If the strong safety had gone with Kolar, the left WR that was crossing shallow was also wide open. The SS put himself in no mans land. It was just a well run play,
