Agree to disagree. Athletic profile certainly makes it more likely someone turns out to be a good football player but it's based on attributes not on actual production. Actually being a good football player is a different conversation.

I can agree that on paper (in theory) Oregon's players in general have a higher ceiling. I think that means very little in this game though. Both teams are well coached and the talent gap on the field isn't very wide at all. Two good teams.

I think Iowa State wins.

However, Iowa State’s athleticism comes at the expense of size or size comes at the expense of athleticism.

On defense, there’s few prototypes. On offense, it’s long but it’s at a cost. To be fair, there’s holes on Oregon’s offense. Oregon’s defense is just unfair if it get its act together.

There’s a reason that a dysfunctional Texas and OU are hard to put away. OU was a disaster fundamentally in that first game. One of the worst I saw this season.

This is just what I see. Take it for what it’s worth.

Why did you guys have to lose to Gene Chizik? That's my #1 thing against Oregon. You gave Gene effin Chizik a national title.
Oregon did hire Altman away from Creighton resulting in Creighton hiring McDermott away from ISU. So you can't get too mad at them.

We voted in a measure to decriminalize all recreational drug use and send people to rehab instead. Governor just said we can’t pay for the rehab. Once it warms up, it should be a drug haven here. I am trying to figure out where to move.
Wow. Check out the Upper Midwest (maybe wait until after April so you will like the weather, too).

Oregon has more talent when you look at recruiting rankings. The talent Iowa State has are a lot of guys who went under the radar. Mike Rose was a guy we flipped from Ball State, and he is the Big 12 defensive player of the year. Breece Hall was a 4 star on 247, but they had 21 other running backs ranked ahead of him (one of which is on our roster as the #3 back). Hell, Joe Scates is probably the highest ranked recruit we have on our roster and he's far down on the list of players Oregon should worry about.

Recruiting rankings do matter overall, but there are a lot of higher rated guys that flame out for whatever reason. Coaching and player development matter; Iowa State has done a good job at developing players. I'm sure Oregon does this well too, but it also sounds like they're a younger team. We'll see how it plays out on Saturday.

I've already said that Iowa State probably wins. I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon won but if push came to shove, money would be laid on Iowa State.

There's potential that Oregon's front seven overwhelms the Iowa State OL and Oregon is able to dink and dunk down the field and not settle for field goals. Bowl games are funny. So, who knows?

Also, I am not talking just about rankings. I am talking about visible size to speed ratio. Oregon just has some unicorns at this point.

But bowl games are often about who shows up and wants to fight. I can all but guarantee you this ISU team is going to give you its best haymaker.

Oregon hasn’t lost by more than one score in a long time. I do expect a close game.
I hope so. Just don’t come back here after like ToE fans telling us that you actually did win if you didn’t.

I don't hope for a close one. Would rather run ISU out of the building. But as I like to say, "You can **** in one hand and wish in another. See which fills faster."

Assuming the same person is at the levers, your handle is widely known on the interwebs as insightful and knowledgeable about Duck football.

Concerned about your pessimism.

If/When you can find the time perhaps you could share a more full blown prognostication/prediction.

Duck fan here (my handle definitely didn’t give it away...) Pumped for this game. I think it will be a battle. That being said, let the chit talking commence/resume.

As they've indicated it's an inverted Tampa 2 defense, which means the soft spot of the defense is deep down the seam. They aren't a pressure defense for the most part but the 4th player is coming from any direction. Our OL is young and doesn't pick up the blitz well and our qb can't throw very well down the middle. There probably won't be time to run 4 vertical concepts in the passing the game to overwhelm the three high safeties.

I am not too concerned with their offense but I expect us to make more mistakes. I think we can cover one on one. Our best shot at victory is getting Purdy to do too much. I think the staff is determined to go with Shough and I am concerned about his penchant for the turnover.

If we had a really healthy Verdell, I would fee better about this too. Hopefully Dollars cleans up mistakes because he could be good as well.

There’s no way to dispute Oregon has better athletes. With all this seasons opt outs I think it is fair to say ISU has better football players in this game. But we will see.

I remember watching three games one Saturday and in all three games there was a long blond Ohioan linebacker that popped on the screen. One of those games was ISU with Mike Rose.

I've always wanted my very own Goldilocks Ohioan linebacker for our ducks since.
