This whole postseason setup is squirrelly. I thought ISU deserved a far better opponent than 4-2 Oregon which, after all, didn't even win its division.

ISU wins this bowl game, everyone will say: well, Oregon sucks; ISU loses: see, I told you so.

Indiana, Northwestern, BYU, Coastal Carolina, or any other Top 20 team, even Iowa, would have been better for Cy and B12 fans.

OMFG STFU! Why do you think anyone gives a **** about your old ass opinion?

I don't know what to make of the opponent here. Appreciate the info from the handful of new Duck posters. Seems like we just don't have a big enough sample for me to really get a good feel for this game. I think Iowa State should handle them. They have played more games, have more experience playing together, and have a better QB. Then again, though they struggled, Oregon is a year removed from being elite with Herbert and that great defense they had in 2019. A lot of those pieces are presumably still present on the roster. They did win some semblance of conference championship...just seems like a total coin flip. Guess I'll pop some popcorn and just hope to enjoy a good game.

The USC QB was terrible was first thing I noticed.

I didn't get all the way through it, but it seemed like USC didn't even try to run the ball most of the time. The Oregon DBs seemed to be in very tight coverage, even on the passes that were completed.

I agree, the USC QB threw some really bad passes.

Does Oregon play man or zone? Our tight ends can wreck a zone, but we've had a tendency to struggle against defenses that play man coverage well.

He was running from Ducks all game. Everything he threw was on the run. Ducks were in the backfield all night.

To me, I don't see how Oregon scores more than 20 points. Oklahoma scored 27 and only 3 in the second half. Oregon's offense is not as good as Oklahoma's by far if their QB has the issues they say he has. Our defense has been as consistent as anything all year long and it's not going to stop now. Especially with Isheem actually playing this time. I am thinking even if that DE they have gives us fits, Brock will still get at minimum 2 to 3 touchdowns. That's not even factoring in Breece (THE NATIONS LEADING RUSHER) and apparently Oregon struggles against the run at times. We gonna win boys. Book it.

Hi y’all, Duck fan here. Thanks for having me. Congrats on a great season and the NY6 berth! If any of you get bored and wish to visit any Duck forums, as others have mentioned: Scoopduck (paid), 247 (paid) are active but paywall, DucksAttack is not as highly trafficked as it used to be but you’ll find some knowledgeable Duck fans there and as long as you’re not an NDSU honk you’re welcome there. Lots of Duck fans on Reddit and twitter as well.

I follow college football closely, so I’m a bit familiar with ISU. What do you prefer to be called, other than the obvious Iowa State or Cyclones? Besides Oregon or Ducks we go by UO, U of O - Washington’s Daddy is also acceptable. I should note UO, not to be confused with those dyslexic Sooners who are still crying about the last time they visited Oregon, and whom I was hoping to see ISU flush a second time this season, and a valiant effort was made.

A bit about Oregon, not necessarily relevant to this game but since we’re playing for the first time: founded in 1876, the state’s flagship university. Located in Eugene (pop. 171k, 375k metro), about two hours south of Portland in the Willamette Valley. One of the smallest public schools in a P-5 conference, enrollment ~21k.

Football: decent from in the two platoon era, followed by 30 years of misery and darkness from the mid 1960s to 1994, after which football was re-born - largely thanks to a 97 yard interception return for a TD which we call The Pick, propelling Oregon over arch rival Washington and to the Rose Bowl. Since then: 5 Rose Bowls, 2 national title appearances and losses, 2 and now 3 Fiesta Bowls, and a Cotton Bowl. Since 2000 Oregon has been top-10 in wins, with 11 double digit win seasons. The last decade has been especially fruitful, with five top-5 poll finishes, four Pac-12 titles, and five seasons of 12+ wins.

We like to think we have the top program on the West Coast. USC still has their brand name, but Oregon’s national fan base, on field results, and Nike flash have helped close the gap. Oregon has a winning record against any conference opponent dating back nearly 40 years. For TV ratings purposes Oregon is the Pac-12’s biggest draw, and played in the two most watched games of the 2010s.

Since 2000 Oregon is 6-3 against the Big-12-
Wins: 2000 Holiday Bowl Texas, 2001 Fiesta Bowl Colorado, 2006 Oklahoma, 2008 Holiday Bowl Oklahoma State, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Kansas State, 2013 Alamo Bowl Texas.
Losses: 2004 Oklahoma, 2005 Holiday Bowl Oklahoma, 2015 Alamo Bowl TCU which had a blown 31-0 lead we shall not speak of.

OU went pretty ultra conservative for a while in the second half and never were able to get it clicking again. If they stayed aggressive, it could have been a different game.

From ESPN's Bowl Season article out today:

Key player: DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. If this had been a normal season, Thibodeaux would have been a preseason All-American. But even in six games, he made his presence felt. That was evident in the Pac-12 championship game against USC, in which he was named the MVP with five tackles and a sack. Thibodeaux, who leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, is a difference-maker wherever he lines up, and Iowa State will have to account for him.

Storyline to watch: The Ducks did not even win their division but were the surprise winners in the Pac-12, upsetting USC in the conference championship game. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises is what they did at quarterback, where both Tyler Shough and Anthony Brown played. It was an interesting move, considering Brown -- a Boston College transfer -- had not played at all this season. Coach Mario Cristobal wanted to get him some playing time and Oregon designed a few packages for him. Brown rewarded that faith with two touchdown passes. Shough also threw two touchdown passes, so it begs the question: Will the Ducks try to get Brown into this game, too?

True. How's your wrist? Did you break it?

Welcome. Here is my basic breakdown of ISU for the Oregon fans:

QB - Brock Purdy. A lot of games he plays like an All-American, and then he'll have the occasional game that makes you want to pull your hair out. Doesn't have the strongest arm, but is pretty accurate and can make plays with his feet.

RB - Breece Hall. If he played for a blue-blood, he'd likely be a top 3 Heisman candidate. Doesn't have elite speed, but he's fast enough. What makes him great is he is a smart, patient runner that waits for holes to open. Also deceptively strong. His backup, Kene Nwangwu, is the speed back.

WR & TE's. Xavier Hutchinson is our best receiver. Came in as a JUCO this year and has turned into our best WR. The TE room as a whole may be the best in the country. Kolar is the biggest receiving threat of the group, while Allen and Soehner are the better blockers (but can catch the ball too).

Defense is very solid. Not sure there is a weak spot in it. Everyone knows their role and they do a good job overall at being in position. Our LB Mike Rose might be the best player on the defense, but I'm looking for our Safety Isheem Young to have a big game. Very talented player that hits hard; was the victim of an unfortunate targeting call in the Oklahoma game. I'm looking for him to have an impact after having to sit on the sideline last game.
