Campbell on Hot Mic

This is what I found on targeting, "The rule in football means that discipline for players flagged for violations will mirror the penalty for fighting. If the foul occurs in the first half of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game. If the foul occurs in the second half or overtime of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next contest." Seems like he should be able to play the whole bowl game.

lol I would not want to be one of those Oregon players on the receiving end of a pissed off, blood thirsty Isheem Young hit. RIP ducks

Why would he? I thought it was only if you get kicked out in the second half.

It's what I thought I heard from talking heads on another game later that night. I could be wrong and I hope your right. Some dude got ejected for the same type of play, not a malicious hit but the contact part of it. They talked about him not being eligible for the 1st half of their bowl game, not sure what half that happened in the game I was watching.

Exactly. All we had to do was 1) snap the ball or 2) jump. Those two things would lead to an offsides penalty. Also, we easily picked up the first down after it so I’m not sure why people are so focused on this...
whom ever the tight end was moved immediately and pointed, on the last player who crossed over the neutral zone, I believe. Therefore someone in a set position moved even though he was not on the line or on same side. Why did that not count???????????

Why should it have been called? No contact and if it doesn’t cause movement by the offense if you get back it’s not offsides. It simply isn’t a penalty. On replay you could not see clear contact.
Disagree. The te who was off the ball reacted to one of the jumps, when he was in a set position ,into the neutral zone. SOOOOOOO, it should of been a penalty on one team or the other.

Yes. I was shocked that both Purdy and Campbell carried on the rant. I know they know these basic rules. I was quite surprised Campbell did not get a technical. (I know most will disagree here, but) I actually thought he was threatening the official the way he kept repeatedly pointing at him. Seemed totally out of character for Campbell.
Isn’t the fact the officials never threw a flag on Campbell telling enough though?

Those guys are always wanting to make sure you don’t show them up. They know they botched this one and they didn’t flag Campbell because of it. Because he absolutely deserved one.

I think that's right, actually.
referred many hs varsity basketball games. A whiner who complains alot during their games will get a technical, while a coach whom seldom complains gets a pass EVERYTIME for exactly the same response. Referees are human and really respect a coach who normally just coaches. If a normally reasonable coach reacts, my first thought as a ref was, oh ****, did we get this correct....lol.

I didn’t see that. If that’s the case it should’ve been.

How did he react?
He was in a two pt stance. Immediately stood straight up and pointed at player. This was before ball was snapped. The te went into a set position. He cannot move until ball is snapped or it should be a penalty on him.

my question is if the DB already left feet prior to WR sliding down is WR really defenseless?

did he have time to protect himself or clearly became a ball carrier (established himself as a runner)? If not then yes defenseless according to the rule book.

breece did the same thing as well.

You can move out of a 2 pt stance. You can reset legally. If he stood straight up and pointed, not a presnap penalty. If moved as if he would to a snap, then it should’ve been offsides if the defensive player jumping is determined to cause it.

If you are in a two point stance you can move all you want presnap unless you are moving as you would on the snap. You can stand up and look to the sideline for a play. You can shift, go in motion, etc.

Thanks for reffing, to me that seems to be a thankless job.
